Job Title: Daycare Kitchen/Housekeeping staff

Contract: August 25th 2025 to July 3rd 2025

Availability/Hours: Monday to Friday 8:00am-4:00pm (7 hours)

1 hour lunch

Expected hours: 35 per week

Position Accountability:

  • Responsible for preparing, and serving well-balanced nutritional meals for children provided by the Caterer.
  • Responsible for menus (lunch and snacks) are being adhered to.
  • Ensure children with food allergies/restrictions/anaphylaxis are provided with replacement meals/snacks and that food is stored/served in a safe manner.
  • Responsible for preparing and serving well-balanced nutritional snacks for children in consultation/in accordance with the Caterer, Preschool Supervisor, Toronto Childrens Services and Toronto Public Health.
  • Responsible for the upkeep and cleanliness of the kitchen and food storage according to Toronto Public Health Standards.
  • Responsible for assisting the Supervisor with ensuring the timely restocking of food and kitchen supplies.
  • Able to use Industrial Dishwasher/Washer and Dryer confidently.
  • Able to provide supervision & preschool staff relief in toddler and preschool rooms (nap room/washroom supervision/programming (indoor/outdoor)

Certifications/Qualifications:

All Applicants called in for an interview must be prepared with:

  • Criminal Reference Check (current -within last 6-months)
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate (TPH approved)
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Up to date Immunization records
  • Available to start August 25th 2025

Qualifications:

  • To have basic knowledge of the nutritional needs and proper eating habits of young children;
  • To have the ability to maintain inventory, implement menus, and prepare food (ie. cutting fruit/vegetables/bread) in large quantities;
  • Proven ability to communicate in a pleasant, courteous and tactful manner;
  • Apply Problem-solving skills to efficiently resolve challenges that may arise;
  • Superb time management skills;
  • To be sensitive, friendly, and mature individual who is able to relate well to the children, parents and staff;

Position Duties & Responsibilities:

  • In consultation with the Preschool Supervisor/Room Staff; implement menus, keep an inventory of all food and supplies, and prepare food (lunch and snacks);
  • Document/post and track the menu and meal changes in a designated place (written and electronic via Brightwheel);
  • Prepare meals and snacks for the children in accordance with the planned menu and individual children's special diets and allergies;
  • Wash and disinfect daily dishes after each meal or as needed;
  • Maintain the kitchen in a clean, safe, and tidy manner;
  • Assist Supervisor with ordering and receiving weekly/bi weekly food/supplies/toy orders:
  • Perform other related duties as required by the Preschool Supervisor;
  • Maintain and manage the laundry and toy cleaning schedule, ensuring all are completed efficiently and effectively;
