Reporting to: Dean of Academic & Vocational Programs

Salary:

$47.83 – 56.75/hour depending on experience and qualifications as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional 2% in lieu of benefits on regular earnings, 6% vacation and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay day.

Description:

Northern Lights College (NLC) is seeking a Psychology instructor to teach post-secondary, first-year, and second-year Psychology courses. Psychology courses are offered in a variety of NLC Arts, Human Services, Social Services and Social Science programs. The ideal applicant will have experience or knowledge of teaching educational psychology, research methods and organizational psychology. Experience teaching in complementary fields such as Social Work, Education, Counselling Psychology, Human Development, or Health Sciences will be considered.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master's degree in psychology or a closely related discipline.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to positively contribute to the College environment are essential.
  • A supportive attitude to students and a strong commitment to student success.
  • Ability to function effectively as a team member through collaborative approaches to course pedagogy.

Preferred:

  • PhD in Psychology.
  • The Provincial Instructor Diploma Program (PIDP) or equivalent credential in adult education.
  • Experience teaching a culturally diverse student population, including Indigenous and international students, at an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Experience or knowledge of teaching educational psychology, research methods and organizational psychology are considered assets.
  • Experience teaching in complementary fields such as Social Work, Education, Counselling Psychology, Human Development, or Health Sciences.
  • Experience with online instruction, utilizing learning management systems, curriculum development and course design.
  • Knowledge of current trends and issues in post-secondary education in British Columbia.
