School-Age Care SupervisorSeymour Youth CentreNorth Vancouver, BCFull-Time Temporary Opportunity The Opportunity:This position is for the Parkgate Society School Age Care Program that operates at Seymour Youth Centre. Working in close collaboration with the School Age Care team, and under the direction of the School Age Care & Family Programs Manager, the School Age Care Supervisor will plan and direct an inclusive School Age Care Program, including Pro-D and seasonal day camps within the school year for ages 5-12, supervise part-time staff, be accountable for the safety, care and engagement of the children, and responsible for the maintenance and operations of the Seymour Centre.
Contract Details:
  • A temporary 10-month full-time contract position, during the school year, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with the potential for a year-over-year renewal
  • Hourly wage is $23.00 – $26.00 per hour
  • 6% of wages is paid with each pay in lieu of paid vacation time off

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:Programming and delivery:
  • Is accountable for the safety, care, and well-being of the children in the School Age Care Program without exception.
  • An effective role model to ensure the provision of a nurturing, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate child care program that meets the needs of school-aged children in a safe and healthy group setting.
  • Expected to be innovative & creative, delivering and programming & activities that are developmentally appropriate and have an inclusive, anti-bias and/or EDI lens;
  • Effectively engages with our community of parents, educators, and other child care colleagues, listening to them and incorporates the best/most relevant suggestions into Parkgate Society programming.
  • Develops, maintains, and keeps the Manager & team apprised of care plans for children, with special attention to those children requiring extra support;
  • Effectively maintains child & family information, emergency equipment and the premises/equipment for the program at all times.

Leadership and Staff Management:
  • Understands the importance of staff well-being and is committed to creating a healthy, organized workplace while also ensuring the quality of the child care is of the utmost priority;
  • Effectively engages, supports, and manages staff by creating a positive internal culture that values professional standards and practices with the goal of providing the highest-quality child-centred child care;
  • Participates in staff hiring and training to build and maintain a strong, cohesive team; measures performance and helps staff find their strengths and success;
  • Coordinate, monitor, and role-model the provision of a nurturing, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate program that meets the needs of school-aged children within a safe and healthy environment.

Activity Planning:
  • Plan and implement activities and experiences that support the individual and group needs of all children within a consistent, child-centred program environment.
Effective Management and Leadership:
  • A strong relationship builder and respected leader.
  • Maintain positive, respectful, and professional relationships with team members, families & caregivers, external resources, e.g., Supported Child Development, all staff within Parkgate Society, and building contractors.
  • Collaborate & work closely with the other School Age Care Supervisor (Parkgate) and the School Age Care Manager to program & deliver engaging Pro-D Days & seasonal camps during the school year.
  • Leads and manages a diverse team working at Seymour Youth Centre and working with all other colleagues at Parkgate; someone who is engaging and inspiring to staff, students, and volunteers.
  • Creates an atmosphere of staff satisfaction, growth, fairness, and teamwork, while providing ongoing feedback, mentorship, and coaching, and addressing performance issues promptly.
  • Promotes Parkgate Society's services within the community and beyond.

Policy and Licensing Compliance:
  • Ensures compliance with licensing regulations and Parkgate Society's policies and procedures
  • Flag any concerns in a timely manner through the appropriate channels.
  • Is responsible for ensuring that CCFL licensing standards are always met.

Record keeping, administration & budget:
  • Record keeping as required and importantly, provides regular updates to the School Age Care Manager;
  • Completes administrative tasks accurately and within prescribed timelines, including staff scheduling, incident reports, fire & emergency drills, updates children's files, supplies ordering & inventory.
  • Provides clear guidelines and information about the School Age Care program to children, families, and caregivers as required and as needed;
  • Manages program budgets carefully and organizes Pro-D Day, Winter, and Spring Camp registration, planning, and execution in collaboration with the other SAC Supervisor.
Required Skills & Knowledge:
  • A seasoned background in Early Childhood Education, teaching, or equivalent with (3-5) plus years of similar or related work experience; strong knowledge of theory, principles, and practices in the child care profession and sector;
  • Sound knowledge and experience working with school-age children and with families in a community program setting;
  • Strong & effective supervisory and/or management experience in a busy, dynamic child care environment;
  • Is operations-oriented and has an established operational approach to their work, understanding the need for systems and processes to serve the business, team, and community.
  • A respected people leader with strong evidence of and background in getting things accomplished in a dynamic environment;
  • Good understanding and evidence of work delivered through an EDI lens;
  • Current First Aid, Responsible Adult, or EA are mandatory; ECE / ECEA certification is an asset.
  • BC Driver's License and access to a car are also assets.
Other Requirements:
  • Able to fully participate, physically/emotionally/mentally, and effectively lead in a licensed school-age care setting as needed, working directly and closely with the team, children, parents, and community;
  • Strong ability to pivot and adapt to whatever situation presents itself with confidence and kindness;
  • As this is a supervisory role, it is expected that work time and hours will be flexible as needed, occasionally working evenings and/or weekends as needed.
