We service cold storage, meat packing, food processing and recreational ice facilities throughout Western CanadaPOSITION OVERVIEW:Startec Refrigeration Service is currently recruiting an HVAC Estimator to work at our Calgary, Alberta location (9423 Shepard Road SE, T2C 4R6). The HVAC Estimator provides project estimating for HVAC/Refrigeration construction projects. The Estimator oversees project estimating, bidding, budgeting, scheduling, cost control, labor management, material procurement, sales support, and customer satisfaction. Your expertise will shine as you analyze drawings and specifications to craft precise cost estimates. This includes understanding customer and technical requirements, coordinating resources and materials for seamless project execution. Through clear communication and efficient planning, you'll unite stakeholders and guarantee project success.KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):ESTIMATING & PRE-CONSTRUCTION (Weighting 60%)Cost analysis
  • Estimate materials, equipment, and labor costs.
  • Gather quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Assess project risks and provide recommendations.
  • Draft and present thorough project bids and quotations, incorporating technical writing and specifications.
  • Analyze project drawings, specifications, and scope of work to develop accurate cost estimates.
  • Demonstrate the ability to read and understand HVAC plans, construction drawings, and specifications.
  • Provide detailed estimates based on conceptual documents as well as schematic, design development, and construction documents.
  • Review documents to identify project bid requirements, scope of work, scheduling impacts, non-standard work conditions, material and equipment data, safety and compliance requirements, risk management, and other special considerations.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, bid strategy discussions, and post-construction evaluations
Proposal Development
  • Preparing and submitting quotations and proposals in response to RFP and Tender requests.
  • Perform technical writing to support the creation of proposal letters.
  • Participates in pre-bid meetings, bid strategy meetings, and post-construction meetings.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT SUPPORT (Weighting 25%)
  • Oversee projects from start to finish, ensuring alignment with budget and schedules.
  • Assist in preparing project schedules, procurement plans, and resource allocations.
  • Monitor project progress to ensure costs remain in line with forecasts.
  • Coordinate scheduling to ensure material is ordered and delivered at the required dates.
  • Track and manage project submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
  • Ensure all projects adhere to safety and quality standards.
PROJECT COST REPORTING (Weighting 15%)Cost Management
  • Track and control all project costs, including labor, materials, and subcontractors.
  • Monitor and report project progress against cost projections.
  • Provide monthly project billing requirements to administration.
  • Coordinate the submission of all close-out documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 2 to 3 years of experience in HVAC, Refrigeration or Mechanical estimating roles
  • Journeyperson Certificate in HVAC, Refrigeration or Sheet Metal is an asset
  • A diploma in Engineering Technologist specializing in HVAC/R is an asset
  • Strong understanding of construction and HVAC/R processes.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, takeoffs and specifications
  • Ability to perform in a collaborative, team-based environment.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and dependable with the drive to succeed in a fast-paced setting.
  • Experience in AutoCAD and drafting software is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Experience with Estimating Software is a bonus
  • Valid Alberta driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
