The Toronto Blue Jays are looking for a Manager, Fan Insights

Working with the Director, Fan Insights and others in the Strategy, & Analytics department, the Manager, Fan Insights will help ensure that business decisions are informed by actionable fan insights and that all strategies and initiatives are rooted in a deep understanding of our customers.

DAY IN THE LIFE

The Strategy & Analytics team at the Toronto Blue Jays is seeking a hands-on research specialist with experience generating end-to-end insights (from scoping problems, designing and executing research, synthesizing results, and disseminating findings) that impact business decisions.

  • Structure and solve problems following a rigorous quantitative and qualitative hypothesis-driven approach:
  • Understand business questions and stakeholder objectives
  • Propose, develop, and execute survey and non-survey-based research approaches
  • Clean, analyze, and synthesize data
  • Present results through compelling storytelling and visual presentations
  • Solve strategic problems new to the organization and new to the incumbent. Quantitative and qualitative research experiences are both beneficial, however, most internal research is currently quantitative/survey-based in nature
  • Take ownership of on-going and existing research initiatives that are both internal and external (e.g., in collaboration with Major League Baseball) such as Voice of Customer, Fan Experience dashboard reporting, and Blue Jays Fan Forum insights community
  • Support the Director, Fan Insights on large-scale strategic research initiatives such as segmentation, journey mapping, and brand health
  • Support small- and large-scale initiatives across the business
  • Build strong relationships across the business

RESPONSIBILITES

  • Own and execute research projects by:
    • Scoping and framing business problems
    • Identifying, developing, and implementing appropriate methodologies (e.g., survey writing and programming, focus group facilitation, interviewing, etc.)
    • Performing quantitative and qualitative analyses and presenting findings and recommendations
  • Support the broader Fan Insights agenda by:
    • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to align on research objectives
    • Owning the internal relationships between Fan Insights and our ticket sales, ticket service, concessions, and fan experience groups
    • Managing, growing, and nurturing our online research community
    • Managing Qualtrics, Tableau, and other platforms (e.g., text analytics) as tools for the business, and managing self-service access to these tools
    • Participating in and positively influencing league-wide research programs
    • Supporting large-scale research initiatives such as segmentations, journey maps, and others as needed
    • Assisting in development of annual learning plans
  • Increase the impact of Fan Insights within the business by:
    • Helping business partners identify gaps in customer understanding that impact decisions
    • Driving utilization of research projects such as post-purchase/post-attendance surveys
    • Acting as a thought partner to support strategy development, planning, and execution for TBJ Business Operations and individual departments
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the Strategy & Analytics team by:
    • Mentoring and training junior staff
    • Developing new capabilities and proposing new approaches to our work
    • Staying up to date with industry trends
    • Playing an active role in the development of team culture

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completed post-secondary education
  • 3-6 years experience in market research, consumer insights, or a related field (e.g., at a consumer research agency, data syndication company, in a market research/consumer insights function at a CPG firm, etc.)
  • Experience executing advanced research and survey methodologies and providing insights that drive business decisions
  • Expertise with Tableau, Qualtrics (or equivalent), SQL, and R Studio is considered a strong asset
  • Ability to personally analyze and interpret data to support business decision-making
  • Critical thinker with an ability to effectively communicate complex concepts
  • Team player with a willingness and curiosity to push past assigned work
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
  • Passionate about solving challenging business problems
  • Legally able to work in Canada
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
