As a Senior Commissioning Technologist, you'll take ownership of the commissioning process for high-voltage substations and related systems. You'll lead site-level execution, testing, troubleshooting, and reporting - ensuring all activities meet safety standards and technical specifications.
You will work closely with supervisors, engineers, and project managers to deliver high-quality outcomes and provide mentorship to junior technologists.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead substation commissioning activities and oversee junior team members on site.
Inspect, test, and commission high-voltage equipment (e.g. power transformers, circuit breakers, relays, instrument transformers, and switchgear).
Conduct functional tests and analyze test data to validate system performance.
Troubleshoot installation issues and ensure compliance with technical standards.
Interpret and work from SCADA, protection, and electrical schematic drawings.
Communicate with internal and external stakeholders throughout the commissioning process.
Document results and submit clear, organized commissioning reports.
Ensure strict adherence to electrical safety protocols, including LOTO and PTW procedures.
Maintain compliance with all regulatory and safety requirements.
Support implementation of RAS schemes and switching operations where required.
Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics, or a related field.
5+ years of hands-on commissioning experience in high-voltage substations.
Strong knowledge of protection and control systems.
Proficiency with testing tools and software such as Omicron, Doble, Megger, etc.
Experience working with relays from manufacturers such as SEL, GE, Siemens, or ABB.
Ability to analyze complex systems, recognize deficiencies, and implement solutions.
Experience in brownfield substations is considered a strong asset.
Must have a valid Class 5 Driver's License and willingness to travel based on operational needs.
