Philip & Co. Support Services is a values-driven organization dedicated to supporting adults with developmental disabilities in achieving greater independence and inclusion within their communities. We provide high-quality, person-centred support services in alignment with the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) and Developmental Services Ontario (DSO) standards.
Position Summary
The Supported Independent Living (SIL) Support Worker provides direct, individualized support to adults with developmental disabilities living in their own homes or apartments. Support Workers assist individuals in building skills, making informed choices, and achieving personal goals, while promoting safety, dignity, and independence in accordance with the principles of inclusion, self-determination, and person-directed planning.
Key Responsibilities
Support individuals in daily living activities such as budgeting, meal planning, grocery shopping, medication management, hygiene, and housekeeping.
Foster community participation by assisting individuals in accessing recreational, educational, employment, and volunteer opportunities.
Implement individual support plans (ISPs), behaviour support plans, and safety protocols as outlined by MCCSS and agency standards.
Encourage decision-making and goal-setting through person-directed planning and respectful communication.
Monitor and document individuals' progress, incidents, and changes in behaviour or health status using accurate, timely, and confidential reporting.
Maintain a safe and clean living environment while upholding MCCSS Quality Assurance Measures (QAM) standards.
Collaborate with families, caseworkers, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to ensure consistent, holistic support.
Attend mandatory training and participate in team meetings, supervision sessions, and ongoing professional development.
Qualifications
Post-secondary education in Developmental Services, Social Work, Community Support, or a related field.
Minimum 1 year of experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in a SIL, residential, or community-based setting.
Knowledge of MCCSS guidelines, QAM regulations is an asset.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in a dynamic support environment.
Proficiency in documentation and basic computer use (e.g., email, case notes, digital forms).
Valid Ontario Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle with $2,000,000.00 liability.
Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) and First Aid/CPR certification required.
Preferred Assets
CPI, Safe Management, or equivalent crisis intervention training.
Experience with assistive technologies, alternative communication methods, or trauma-informed care.
Working Conditions
Flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on individual support needs.
Work takes place in individuals' homes and within the community.
Physical demands may include walking, lifting, and extended periods of standing.
