We are a well-established mechanical engineering firm seeking a Mechanical Designer & Drafter Technologist to join our Calgary office. As a Mechanical Designer & Drafter Technologist, you will be responsible for the design and drafting of mechanical systems, with opportunities to work independently and mentor junior team members. Youll assist in project execution from schematic design to construction documentation, coordinating with other disciplines and supporting project administration.
Key ResponsibilitiesWork independently on assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
Create engineering designs, drawings, diagrams, plans, and layouts from concepts, sketches, calculations, and other data.
Prepare schematic design, design development, and construction documents using AutoCAD or REVIT in accordance with internal standards and guidelines.
Assist in preparing drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
Review and verify design drawings for accuracy and completeness before supervisory review.
Participate in contract administration tasks, including shop drawing reviews, RFIs, and on-site reviews.
Prepare construction specifications, technical reports, cost and material estimates.
Take on leadership roles in mentoring and coaching junior staff; delegate tasks as appropriate.
Perform load calculations using provided software tools.
Select mechanical equipment in collaboration with vendors and suppliers.
Coordinate mechanical system designs with other disciplines.
Identify and communicate additional services and fee requirements to project managers.
Attend client, consultant, and contractor meetings.
Maintain project schedules and assist in tracking budgets and resources with project management support.
Commit to high-quality work and project timelines through ongoing process and workflow improvements.
Diploma or degree in drafting technology or a related discipline preferred.
Accreditation such as CET, E.I.T., or P.Tech (Eng.) is an asset but not required.
Experience designing HVAC and plumbing systems is beneficial.
Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, heating, cooling, and air handlers.
Ability to interpret and work from construction drawings.
Strong knowledge of local plumbing and building codes.
Familiarity with design and documentation standards.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and REVIT.
Annual Salary: $75,000

Work Hours:
MondayThursday: 8 hours/day + 1 hour unpaid lunch
Friday: 5.5 hours + 0.5 hour unpaid lunch
