Profile Summary:

The Industrial Mechanic/Millwright is a key role in the Engineering Department reporting to the Design and Manufacturing Manager and is responsible for the development, manufacturing, installation, testing and commissioning of forestry industry equipment. This position requires a combination of industrial maintenance experience, effective technical knowledge and ability to understand and execute design requirements. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator with strong problem-solving ability and capable of working well in a team setting.

Key Responsibilities

1. Product Development

Contribute to the design process by drawing upon understanding of mechanical systems, industrial equipment and previous industry experience.

Collaborate with stakeholders including engineering team, business development, suppliers, and contractors.

In collaboration with designers, select appropriate technologies, systems, materials and equipment specifications.

Support prototyping and testing of new equipment designs.

2. Manufacturing & Installation

Utilize experience and understanding of mechanical systems and industrial equipment in the fabrication, assembly and system integration of forestry industry equipment.

Ensure all manufacturing processes comply with Alberta OHS guidelines and relevant industry standards and regulations.

3. Testing & Commissioning

Perform field testing of equipment.

Travel to client facilities and field sites to perform equipment commissioning & servicing.

Contribute to the development and implementation of testing, operating and maintenance procedures.

4. Continuous Improvement

Work with designers to incorporate modifications that improve equipment performance and reliability.

Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices.

Qualifications:

Registered Industrial Mechanic/Millwright or equivalent relevant experience.

5+ years of experience in industrial maintenance and work experience in forestry, agriculture, aggregate, mining, or mobile heavy equipment service.

Experience in installation, servicing and fabrication of mechanical systems using relevant equipment, tools, and procedures.

Effective technical knowledge, including the ability to interpret drawings, schematics, and manuals.

Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and problem-solving ability.

Continuous improvement and learning mindset.

Experience with Microsoft Office tools.

Valid Class 5 drivers license.

Commitment to safe work practices & knowledge of Alberta OHS regulations to ensure a safe workspace.

Preferred Skills:

10+ years of combined education and work experience.

Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, welding, and hydraulic systems.

Familiarity with manufacturing processes and materials.

Previous field experience is a strong asset.

Familiarity with CAD software or other design tools an asset.

Valid passport and ability to travel domestically & internationally.

Safety tickets are an asset (i.e. CSTS, First Aid, H2S Alive, Forklift, Fall Arrest and Aerial Platform)
