Vancouver Whitecaps FC is looking for a new team member to join our Physical Preparation department in the position of Assistant Academy Physical Preparation Coach (Internship).

TheAssistant Academy Physical Preparation Coach will
help facilitate the development of athletes across the Whitecaps Development Pathway with a primary focus on supporting the MLS boys Academy. This position will contribute to ensuring academy athletes achieve an elite level of fitness and physical preparation support in line with the wider Whitecaps Performance Strategy.

This internship is 11 months in length starting August 1, 2025, with distinct learning objectives at each stage, culminating in a capstone project.

Under the guidance of the Lead Academy Physical Preparation Coach, general job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting the Lead Academy Physical Preparation Coach with development and delivery of pitch- and gym-based physical development sessions, in line with the Clubs Development Pathway.
  • Communicating and collaborating regularly with the Head of Physical Preparation, the Lead Academy Physical Preparation Coach, Academy Coaches and other relevant departments (i.e. - Player Care, Data Science, Coaching, Operations) to ensure an integrated process of athlete development, care and performance.
  • Educating athletes on performance lifestyle and standards, relative to their stage in the Development Pathway.
  • Assisting with athlete assessment, monitoring and profiling processes daily and across training cycles.
  • Working closely with the interdisciplinary team to plan, deliver and assess training modalities and interventions.
  • Educating and counselling athletes regarding strategies to facilitate physical development and performance in line with the Whitecaps Development Pathway.
  • Collaborating with sports medicine staff to support the rehabilitation process for any athletes as directed.
  • Providing match day support for academy teams as directed.
  • Completing daily reports on workloads and training interventions, with feedback to athletes and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Contribution to department internal professional development.
  • Reinforcement and development of the clubs culture across the academy pathway.
  • Displaying a growth mindset to evolve and improve self and club practice.

Requirements:

  • Relevant professional accreditation (for example, NSCA CSCS, UKSCA, ASCA).
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or related field.
  • Complete continuing education as required for recertification.
  • Proven understanding in several of the following areas: building foundational training aspects, strength training, conditioning, mobility, injury prevention and performance nutrition.
  • Availability to work match days and other special events as needed for the duration of the program.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and virtual meeting platforms (MS Teams, Zoom).
