Position Summary

Bow Valley College is seeking a collaborative and innovative Learning Design Consultant to join our Centre for Workforce Development. Reporting to the Associate Dean, the Learning Design Consultant plays a critical role in designing high-quality, industry-aligned curriculum that meets the evolving needs of adult, career-focused learners. This position actively supports internal and external stakeholdersincluding industry experts, employers, and Program Chairsin achieving their learning design and curriculum development goals, directly contributing to Bow Valley Colleges commitment to access, quality, and sustainability as outlined in our Strategic Plan.

With a client-centered approach, the Learning Design Consultant conducts needs assessments with employers to identify workforce skill gaps and translates those insights into competency-based learning outcomes aligned with real-world job roles. The successful candidate will design modular course content, authentic assessments, and engaging multimedia materials using plain language and accessible formats. In collaboration with subject matter experts and project teams, the consultant ensures that content is built and optimized within the Colleges learning management system (LMS), offering intuitive navigation and a strong user experience.

This position requires exceptional organizational and project management skills to plan, deliver, and monitor high-impact learning solutions across multiple initiatives. The consultant will also support departmental planning effortsincluding marketing, operations, budgeting, and applied researchand be comfortable adapting to a dynamic workload based on institutional priorities. Staying current with trends in instructional design, adult learning, AI applications, and industry practices is essential to success in this role.

Ideal candidates will possess a Bachelors degree in Education, Instructional Design, or a related field (Masters preferred), along with 46 years of relevant experience in teaching, curriculum development, and workforce skills programming. Previous consulting experience and familiarity with post-secondary education environments will be considered strong assets. The position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of workforce training and education in Alberta through meaningful, outcome-driven learning experiences.
