The Vancouver Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club (“the Club”) is the city's premier racquets, fitness, and social Club. Located just a few minutes from downtown, the Club offers exceptional tennis, badminton, squash, fitness, and aquatics programming for over 4,000 members, along with a variety of social events with upscale-casual dining in 3 restaurants.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Aquatics Supervisor.

Overview:

You will be responsible for the hiring, training, and scheduling of Aquatics and Juniors (kids programs) Staff. You will lead the seasonal multi-sport camp staff with planning, promotion, and execution of the camps during spring and summer breaks. This position also maintains records and submits payroll and monthly billing, and provides supervision, guidance, and direction to all Aquatics and Juniors staff. You will also work as a Lifeguard and Instructor as required. This is a permanent, full-time position (40 hours per week). The position requires approximately 30 hours per week in an administrative role, and approximately 10 hours per week at the pool lifeguarding and instructing.

Wage: Ranges from $26.00 - $30.00 per hour based on experience

Responsibilities: Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Creates and manages the staff schedules for Aquatics and Juniors staff (approximately 15 aquatics staff and 4 Juniors staff).
  • Manage all Member correspondence with regards to aquatics programming, responds to all Member phone calls and emails within 24 hours.
  • Manages staff inquiries and requests.
  • Administers payroll for aquatics and juniors staff.
  • Responsible for creating seasonal program guide including handling swimming lesson and other aquatics and juniors program registration.
  • Orient and train new staff members including appropriate attire, safety procedures, and Club rules/policies; conduct ongoing training sessions for aquatics staff.
  • Maintain staff records regarding certification and training requirements.
  • Evaluate staff including evaluation of lifeguarding and instructor duties.
  • Attend monthly Fitness & Aquatics Committee meetings (preparing reports as required).
  • Monthly aquatic and junior event billings.
  • Play a key role in facility first aid response and procedures.
  • Be an active member of the Joint Health & Safety Committee including attending monthly meetings and assisting with safety inspections and other duties as required.
Junior Programs Responsibilities:
  • Market & promote Junior programs and special events.
  • Hiring, scheduling, and training staff for Multi-Sport Camps (spring break and summer), and special events as required.
  • Plan and execute Spring Break and summer Multi-sport camps.
  • Take a lead role in planning and executing junior special events including movie nights, Sunday with Santa, Kids' Halloween Party, Easter, Canada Day, and Kids' Pool Party.
  • Plan and execute private events such as birthday parties including member correspondence, coordination with the Food & Beverage team, party leader staffing, and billings.
Lifeguard & Instructor Responsibilities:
  • Provide a safe environment and control pool environment for all patrons of the pool while courteously enforcing all pool rules, policies, procedures.
  • Assist the Athletics Director and Facilities Director with daily facility and staff operation as needed.
  • Complete daily maintenance tasks, to keep pool and pool area clean and tidy, such as monitoring pool chemistry levels and general pool deck cleanliness.
  • Monitor and review incident reports, performing follow-up with staff and Members where necessary.
  • Create appropriate lesson schedule each term.
  • Assessment of children ensuring enrollment in proper levels according to their abilities; complete evaluations with Life Saving Society standards.
  • Create and maintain database with Children's lesson levels.
  • Order and maintain lesson supplies as needed.
  • Be present at the pool and engage with members and staff.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 3 years' experience as a lifeguard/instructor.
  • Minimum 1 years' Supervisory experience, specifically of aquatics staff.
  • Must have NLS pool option, CPR-C, Standard First Aid and Life Saving Society Swim Instructor.
  • Life Saving Instructor certification is preferred.
  • Experience in program planning and execution.
  • Experience in planning and executing special events.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
