ABOUT WILLIAMS LAKE FIRST NATION (WLFN)

The Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN), or the Texelcemc (people of WLFN) have belonged to the Secwepemc (or Shuswap) Nation for over 6500 years. Today, the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane, in nearby Williams Lake, BC, and across the globe.

POSITION

Reporting to the Lead Teacher, the Primary Teacher(s) will foster and facilitate the intellectual and social development of the children. You will teach children with patience and creativity. The Primary Teachers duties include designing a teaching plan and using activities and instructional methods to motivate children.

Employment Type

Permanent full-time, 35 hours per week during the school year.

Probation Period

3 months from the date of hire.

Education Required

  • Current BC College of Teachers Full Practicing Certificate; Bachelor of Education.
  • Valid Pediatric First Aid and FoodSafe.

Experience Required

  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience

Overtime Status

Non-exempt.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Deliver the Ministry of Education Primary Curriculum.
  2. Oversee the day-to-day operation of the classroom.
  3. Assist students with integration into the classroom and school setting.
  4. Help students individually or in small groups with assignments and learning concepts under the supervision of a classroom teacher.
  5. Assist in the school library or office and perform other duties assigned by the Lead Teacher.
  6. Assess student needs and if necessary, develop an Individual Education Plan (IEP)
  7. Participate in team meetings, IEP development, and staff meetings as required.
  8. Collaborate with the Ministry of Education, the First Nation Schools Association, and the First Nations Education Steering Committee regarding program delivery.
  9. Consult with parent(s)/ caregivers on a regular and timely basis.
  10. Advocate for the education of the children and families
  11. Working creatively and collaboratively with Little Chiefs Primary School staff and Williams Lake First Nation Education Department
  12. Attend meetings, training, and professional learning sessions (e.g., first aid, CPR, emergency procedures, behavior management, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
  13. Supports the mission, vision, and values of Williams Lake First Nation.
  14. Contributes to the WLFNs ongoing success by accomplishing other duties as required or assigned.
