We are looking for the visionaries, the change-makers, the self-starters who are seeking more from their career. Change begins with the small decisions we make, each day, to support each other and strive to create inspiring incredible educational experiences for all students, no matter where they are or how they learn. This concept connects deeply to the idea that, in choosing a career with Yorkville University and Toronto Film School, you will have the opportunity to push boundaries, flex your creativity and inspire positive change for so many people. It's also a call-back to the transformative power of education itself.
Our core values put the student experience at the center of what we do, reflecting who we are and aspire to be. If you want to shine a light on academic excellence, be empowered to make an impact on the transformation of the Canadian post-secondary education landscape, and work collaboratively beyond levels, join us.
Who we need
Reporting to the VP, Student and Registrarial Services, we are seeking a Director, Career Services to be a strategic leader, innovative collaborator, and expert in developing and implementing comprehensive career support. In this role, you will design and deliver — or oversee the delivery of — programs that empower students in their career exploration, professional growth, and job placement. You will play a key role in building and executing student-centred resources, events, and opportunities.
This is an opportunity to support a diverse student community as they pursue certifications, Bachelor's degrees, Master's degrees, and Doctorates. You will be pivotal to the student experience at Yorkville, engaging with students from the very first day. As both an academic and a relationship builder, you will raise awareness of the breadth and value of Career Services, guiding students toward meaningful and relevant employment opportunities. As a people leader, you will foster a supportive environment where every team member can do their best work, grow, and thrive — fulfilling our mission of championing student success.
This is a full-time hybrid role, working 3 days a week at our downtown Toronto campus.
What's in it for you
Accountability. You will work proactively and autonomously, ensuring transparent and timely communication with partners, taking and incorporating feedback, and working collaboratively to develop timely, relevant, and engaging knowledge-sharing and networking opportunities for students. You will take ownership of Career Services, acting as a critical leader, a champion of student and alumni success, and as a subject matter expert and point of contact across the institution.
Influence. This is an opportunity to be part of a broader team and strategy that prioritizes innovation and offers increased flexibility in experimenting and defining the delivery of career services and post-secondary education as a whole. You will be part of an organization that has a national influence, a cross-country presence, and deep connections globally in every sector.
Career development. We are disrupting traditional post-secondary learning. Yorkville University is a forward-thinking institution. You will work alongside a VP with an authentic and transformational leadership style, committed to articulating and reflecting the university's vision in all deliverables and creating a working environment that embodies our values. Whether your goal is to move up within Student Services or into another area of university, this is an exciting time to join us.
As our new Director, Career Services, you will:
- Shape the strategy. Building on the strong foundations already in place, you will identify opportunities to enhance impact and expand reach. You will design a forward-thinking strategy to strengthen student engagement and outcomes, setting clear priorities for both in-person and virtual support, resource development, event promotion, and knowledge mobilization. You will also leverage technical solutions to ensure our services are scalable, accessible, and responsive to the diverse needs of our learners.
- Manage. You will develop and execute a strategic vision for the Student Career Services department that aligns with our mission and goals. You will provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to a team of career services professionals. You will manage the budget for the Student Career Services department, allocating resources to support events, programs, and services that promote student career development and advancement. You will contribute to a positive corporate culture that supports our core values.
- Design and deliver. You will design, implement, and manage a range of career development programs, workshops, and resources to help students explore career paths, develop essential job search skills, and make informed career decisions. You will plan and coordinate individualized career counselling and coaching for students, assisting them in setting career goals, refining job search strategies, and preparing for interviews. You will plan and coordinate the delivery of guidance on resume and cover letter writing, networking, professional branding, and other career-related skills.
- Build and leverage relationships with internal and external partners. You will collaborate with academic departments to integrate career development into the curriculum and academic advising. You will collaborate with faculty, academic advisors, and other campus partners to integrate career development into the academic experience, ensuring a holistic student support system. You will cultivate and maintain strong relationships with employers, industry partners, alumni, and community organizations to create internship, co-op, and job placement opportunities for students.
- Empower students. You will organize career fairs, networking events, and employer information sessions to connect students with potential employers. You will find innovative methods to connect with and engage our remote-learning students. You will manage and maintain an extensive library of career resources, including job market research, industry guides, and salary negotiation tips. You will plan and coordinate the development and delivery of workshops and presentations to classes, student organizations, and campus groups, promoting career readiness.
- Evaluate. You will collect and analyze data on student outcomes, career trends, and employer engagement to inform program development and assess the effectiveness of career services initiatives. You will set, track, and meet metrics that articulate success stories. You will work with our alumni team to understand how to best capture graduate outcomes, including quality of relationships with industries related to our programs, effectiveness of Career Services in meeting the needs of students, colleagues, and programs, and the percentage of graduates employed in their relevant industry. You will prepare reports and presentations for institutional stakeholders on the success of the career services programs.
- Grow your knowledge and our presence. You will stay up-to-date with career-related technologies and platforms to enhance the delivery of services, such as online job boards, career assessment tools, and virtual career events. You will attend and represent the university at networking events, and champion Career Services and deliver events on campus, at other Yorkville sites, and at off-campus events.
What you bring:

You have a Master's degree in Higher Education, Counselling, Career Development, or a related field — or you bring an undergraduate degree and strong, relevant experience in its place. You can adapt your approach and language to meet the needs of audiences on campus or remotely, at any level, and confidently create and deliver presentations and workshops in-person or virtually. You are skilled at fostering strong relationships across a range of communities, including academic leaders, industry partners, students, and alumni. You bring an equity-informed lens to engagement, contributing to a culture of professionalism, responsiveness, and continuous improvement.
