Overview
The Freight Forwarding Manager oversees international freight forwarding operations, ensuring alignment with business objectives, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction. This role involves managing vendor and client relationships, driving process improvements, optimizing costs, and handling sales-related tasks such as Request for Quote (RFQ) processes.Key Responsibilities- Develop operational objectives aligned with overall business goals.
- Coordinate with internal teams and departments to facilitate seamless international freight forwarding services.
- Plan and monitor daily staffing schedules, adjusting to meet operational demands.
- Oversee preparation of Canada Customs documentation (e.g., invoices, bills of lading, shipping statements) to ensure accuracy and compliance within designated timeframes.
- Align operations with overall product strategy to support business objectives.
- Interpret and apply relevant regulations to maintain operational integrity.
- Monitor industry standards, trends, and practices to identify opportunities for improving logistics planning and execution.
- Develop and sustain relationships with international transportation carriers, air and ocean carriers, freight forwarding agents, global consolidators, customs brokers, and in-land transportation providers.
- Communicate and follow up on pending matters with customers, including changes, scheduling, regulations, bonding/insurance, and industry expertise.
- Maintain positive relations with major clients, providing superior customer service across all phases of air and ocean import/export processes.
- Ensure operational and financial performance by aligning budgets with market conditions, reviewing results with teams, and implementing adjustments as needed.
- Confer with logistics management teams to optimize service levels, maintain supply-chain efficiency, and minimize costs.
- Manage the Request for Quote (RFQ) process to ensure timely, accurate, and competitive quote preparation and submission.
- Prepare and provide competitive rates on a timely basis, maintaining strong product knowledge to support sales efforts.
- Monitor RFQ performance metrics and escalate issues as needed to ensure client satisfaction and business growth.
- Provide supervision, guidance, and support to team members on operations, standardized procedures, and systems.
- Establish, document, and communicate directives, rules, and procedures for account handling, including service fees, shipment, and booking processes.
- Participate in regular meetings with leadership in the U.S. and global HQ in Korea to report issues and updates on Canada operations.
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in international freight forwarding, logistics, or supply chain management.
- Strong knowledge of import/export regulations, customs clearance, and international shipping processes.
- Proven ability to negotiate pricing, manage vendor relationships, and handle RFQ processes.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with global teams.
- Familiarity with environmental considerations in transportation decision-making.
