About the Role:

At Clearwater Community YMCA, we're committed to the values of honesty, respect, caring, and responsibility. Our Volunteers help us bring these values to life by creating a welcoming, helpful, and inclusive environment for all clients who are who are newcomers, permanent residents, refugees, or temporary foreign workers. Volunteers in this role support our front-line staff by providing friendly guidance, answering questions, and helping community members feel connected and informed. Our volunteers will be supervised by and require ongoing communication with the Volunteer Coordinator and/or Supervisors on site.

Time Commitment

Flexible commitment — we welcome volunteers based on their availability

Volunteer hours are available (Monday to Friday, between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM) with some evenings and/or weekends

Volunteers can choose shifts that fit their schedule (minimum of 2 hours per shift is recommended)

Key Responsibilities

  • Help maintain a safe and welcoming space by following YMCA policies
  • Greet and direct clients as need, if assigned for the front desk
  • Assist with interpretation and translation to English as assigned
  • Work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers on organizing group sessions, special events etc.
  • Communicate with Volunteer Coordinator regarding any situations during your shift
  • Report any safety or facility concerns to YMCA staff during your shift

Qualifications:

Friendly, approachable personality and a willingness to help

  • Clear communication and active listening skills
  • Additional languages are an asset
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office – Outlook, Teams etc.
  • Calm, positive presence during busy periods
  • Empathy and respect for people from diverse backgrounds
