Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform daily garden maintenance including weeding, deadheading, raking, and edging garden beds.
- Plant and transplant annuals, perennials, shrubs, and small trees following site-specific designs and horticultural best practices.
- Apply mulch evenly to specified depth and ensure clean, defined edges around beds.
- Maintain lawns by mowing, trimming, and blowing off clippings, ensuring a neat and professional finish.
- Identify and report signs of pests, plant disease, or nutrient deficiencies.
- Prune shrubs and hedges using proper horticultural techniques and timing.
- Operate and maintain hand tools and small power equipment (trimmers, blowers, edgers, etc.).
- Assist with seasonal tasks such as spring/fall clean-ups, bulb planting, and winter protection for plants.
- Maintain safe work practices and participate in monthly safety meetings.
- Load/unload materials and tools at the shop and on-site as required.
- Communicate effectively with crew members and supervisors to complete tasks efficiently and on schedule.
Qualifications:
- Genuine interest in landscaping, gardening, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Physically fit and able to perform repetitive tasks such as bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), digging, and kneeling for extended periods.
- Ability to follow directions and work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong work ethic with attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship.
- Willingness to learn proper horticultural techniques and landscaping best practices.
- Reliable transportation to and from the shop or job sites.
Preferred (but not required):
- Previous experience in landscaping, gardening, or outdoor labour.
- Familiarity with basic landscaping tools and equipment (e.g., hand pruners, rakes, line trimmers, blowers).
- Valid drivers license.
