We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Project Accountant with a minimum of 3 years of experience to join our team full-time at a Kitchener office. In this on-site, full time role, you will collaborate closely with Project Managers, Estimators, and Coordinators to ensure financial accuracy, cost control, and profitability tracking across multiple projects. Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, a key responsibility is to flag under-performing projects early in their life cycle and provide timely reporting to senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Setup: Work with Estimators and Project Managers to establish project budgets and cost forecasts aligned with contractual purchase orders.
  • Cash Flow Analysis: Collaborate with Project Management to assess cash flow implications based on milestone billing schedules.
  • Change Order Accounting: Track and report Change Orders or Change Directives with separate budgets and revenue for accurate performance monitoring.
  • Reporting:
  • Prepare project dashboard reports as requested by leadership.
  • Investigate under-performing projects with Project Managers.
  • Complete and coordinate monthly WIP (Work in Progress) reports.
  • Assist in compiling monthly financial statements based on WIP outcomes.
  • Provide monthly operating expense (OPEX) P&L summaries as assigned.
  • Project Closeout: Coordinate with AR to ensure completed projects are closed only after all revenue is received and accounted for.
  • Support: Assist with month-end and year-end financial processes as needed.
Ongoing Responsibilities:
  • Proactively identify projects unlikely to meet budgeted gross profits.
  • Support invoice generation for completed projects, deposits, and milestone billing.
  • Continuously look for ways to improve accounting workflows and financial reporting processes.

Requirements
  • Diploma in Accounting or related field.
  • 3 years of experience in project accounting or billing roles.
  • Strong proficiency in electronic accounting systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including modeling and analytics.
  • Excellent understanding of project budgeting and forecasting principles.
  • Exceptional communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Experience with Jonas Construction Software is considered an asset.
  • Ability to stay current with industry best practices and tools.
