Our client, located in Thunder Bay, ON, is looking for a H&S Director! This is an ONSITE role.
This role will have 5 direct reports.
Health & Safety Director – Heavy Manufacturing
This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements under Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), while fostering a proactive safety culture that engages all levels of the workforce. The Director will drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce risk, prevent injury, and enhance overall performance related to employee safety and well-being.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement health and safety strategy aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure full compliance with OHSA, WSIB, Ministry of Labour regulations, and other applicable standards.
- Lead and support incident investigations, conduct root cause analyses, and oversee corrective action planning.
- Establish and maintain proactive safety programs, including risk assessments, behavior-based safety, and near-miss reporting.
- Analyze safety performance data, identify trends, and implement improvement strategies.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- CRSP (Certified Registered Safety Professional) designation or equivalent is strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in industrial health and safety, ideally in a heavy manufacturing environment.
- Proven ability to lead large-scale safety programs and drive culture transformation at sites with 300+ employees.
- Strong knowledge of Ontario safety legislation and regulatory frameworks.
- Practical experience with continuous improvement tools such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen within a safety context.
