Are you an experienced payroll professional with exceptional customer service experience, ready to take the next step in your career? Applewood Auto Group is seeking a dedicated, people and detail-oriented Assistant Payroll Manager to join our head office team in Langley, BC. Supporting our 12 dealerships across Richmond, Surrey, Langley, and Port Hardy, you will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, while preparing to step into a leadership position as the future Payroll Manager. This is an in-office role with no hybrid or remote work options.

Top 5 Roles and Responsibilities
  • Oversee and process payroll for multiple dealerships, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all relevant laws and company policies.

  • Maintain and update employee payroll records, including wages, benefits, tax withholdings, and other essential information.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local labor laws, including accurate tax calculations, filings, and reporting to government agencies.

  • Collaborate with HR to administer benefits programs and ensure deductions and contributions are correctly reflected in payroll.

  • Provide exceptional customer service by addressing payroll-related inquiries from employees and managers, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

  • Payroll Accuracy Rate: Achieve a high percentage of error-free paychecks and tax filings.

  • Timeliness of Payroll Processing: Consistently process payroll within established deadlines.

  • Team Member Satisfaction: Foster positive feedback from employees regarding payroll accuracy, timeliness, and responsiveness.

  • Cost Efficiency: Optimize payroll operations to reduce processing costs and improve resource allocation.

What You Must Be Proficient In
  • Microsoft Office Suite: Advanced skills in Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Accounting Software: Experience with payroll and accounting platforms (such as Payworks, ADP, or similar systems).

  • Basic Accounting: Solid understanding of accounting principles as they relate to payroll.

  • Payroll Expertise: Formal payroll training or extensive hands-on payroll experience, ideally supporting multiple business entities and unionized environments.

  • Problem Solving & Customer Service: Strong analytical skills and a proven track record of delivering outstanding customer service.

Compensation
  • $60,000 to $75,000 annually, minus statutory deductions

  • Final compensation will be determined based on your knowledge, skills, and experience in payroll, as well as other relevant factors.
