Position Overview
The Outreach Counsellor plays a key role in delivering trauma-informed, client-centered support to individuals and families. This includes crisis response, individual and group support, system navigation, and resource coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group support (care calls, stabilization, post-counselling, and transition planning)
- Respond to urgent client needs and offer crisis support
- Facilitate or co-facilitate waitlist and caregiver support groups
- Support client navigation through systems and services
- Participate in education and awareness initiatives in outreach communities
- Support clients and families towards self-efficacy and personal wellness by providing information on the impact of trauma, affirming their resilience and promoting thoughtful informed decision-making
- Providing appropriate community resources, referral options, and soft transfers to other human service providers
- Maintain appropriate documentation and record keeping within Client Management System (CaseWorks)
- Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree in a Human Services field required; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- 2–5 years of experience in counselling, mental health, or social services
- Experience with the legal system, advocacy, and survivor supports is an asset
- Registration with a professional body is an asset, but not required
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and client database systems
- Detail-oriented and well-organized
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Current Criminal Record Check and Child/Youth Intervention Check (within past 3 months)
