BGC Okanagan invites applications from qualified individuals for the position of Advisor, People and Culture. The Advisor provides general HR support, including recruitment and retention, training and development, onboarding and orientation, and health and safety of employees, volunteers, and practicum students. This is a term position until July 31, 2026.
Human Resources Planning
- In cooperation with the Manager of People and Culture, provides support in training and development, recruitment and retention, and health and safety, etc.
- Ensures policies and procedures, Work Safe BC standards, risk management requirements, and general safety standards are met and followed by all staff.
Recruitment, Selection, and Staffing
- Provide assistance for recruitment and selection of employees, volunteers, and practicum students.
- Ensures all documents pertaining to recruitment are accurate and processed in a timely manner.
- Supports and participates in interviews and completes references for employees when requested.
- Works with theOperations Team to understand current and future staffing needs in order to create jobs.
- Reports on current and future staffing needs and the length of time to fill current vacancies.
- Working with the marketing and communications coordinator to promote and attract employees, volunteers, and practicum students
- Leads, coordinates, and delivers agency orientation training to all staff and volunteers.
- Supports with exit interviews and manages terminations as appropriate.
- Registers and participates in career fairs throughout the Okanagan as well as recruits managers for educational speaking opportunities.
- Manages the employee referral program
Training and Development
- Recommends and researches in consultation with the Operations Team and Manager of People and Culture training opportunities for the organization.
- Schedules, plans, and organizes organization-wide training and employee professional development request
- In cooperation with the Manager of People and Culture, identify training costs and ensure costs are within thestaff development budget.
- Manages training agreements as needed
- Coordinates and co-facilitates People and Culture-related trainings for Supervisors.
Health and Safety
- Supports the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees in researching strategies and training to minimize any potential risk to staff.
- Collects, reviews, and compiles monthly Health and Safety meeting minutes and monthly drills.
- Compiles monthly risk reports and assists with the quarterly risk reports.
- In cooperation with the Privacy Officer, helps respond to privacy requests.
- Distributes health and safety bulletins to Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees
- Ensuring Joint Occupational Health and Safety committees are in compliance and good standing
HRMS and Personnel Filing
- Provides support in data input and maintenance of employee information in HRMS database program.
- Provides support in maintaining personnel files and the Human Resources filing systems.
- Creates and distributes seniority lists
- Manages the HUB review system and completes SRATS
- Participates in performance management systems and procedures
- Creates and updates HR-related forms and documents as needed
- Participates in the planning and execution of employee events
- Performs other related duties as required.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Completion of post-secondary education in Human Resource Management and/or one (1) to two (2) years of demonstrated HR experience would be considered an asset
- Experience working in a unionized environment is considered an asset
- Strong computer literacy including effective working skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe.
- Proven track record of success in recruitment and training.
- Superb written and verbal communication skills.

Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Rate of Pay: $56,620.00 salary per year
