Position Summary and Scope of Service:

Reporting to the Manager, Compensation and Benefits, the Nurse, Occupational Health Services is responsible for the provision of pre-employment assessments and updating of required immunization updates for all St.Amant employees. The Nurse has a direct role in the planning, organizing and implementation of St.Amant's annual Occupational Health Influenza Campaign.

Qualifications:

Educational and Professional:

  • Registered Nurse
  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred
  • Holds a current, active registration with College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM)
  • Minimum of 3 years experience preferably in a public health/community or critical health care setting (ICU, ER)
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical skill competence
  • Current CPR certification with preference given to ACLS certification
  • Extensive and current knowledge of theory and practice of nursing. Assumes responsibility for enhancing knowledge and staying current in guidelines for immunizations
  • Familiar with relevant external legislation and regulations - e.g. Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Universal Precautions
  • Familiar with current trends and issues in the area of Occupational Health, Infection Control and Quality Improvement
  • Commitment to a collaborative team approach to service delivery
  • Proficient word processing and computer skills in a Microsoft Office environment

  • Demonstrated ability to assume leadership, accountability, prioritize and organize workload
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively within a multidisciplinary team in a supportive and positive manner

Duties and Responsibilities:

Consistent with the Mission, Philosophy and Policies of St.Amant, immunization nursing guidelines, standards and best practices, the Nurse engages in activities that promote a positive, safe and healthy work environment and provides quality professional services as summarized below.

Clinical Care Management:

Under the direction of the Manager, the Nurse supports Occupational Health Services in ensuring optimal services provided to our clients.

Duties include:

  • Conducts pre-employment health assessments of new employees including health and immunization history
  • Identifies required immunizations that need to be updated based on employee risk criteria
  • Provides information and education to employees regarding required immunizations
  • Administers and follow-ups where appropriate on vaccines and required blood work
  • Provides appropriate follow-up on positive Mantoux (TB) testing
  • Collaborates with and involves Occupational Health Physician when appropriate
  • Maintains employee health files
  • Determines necessity of following-up on any issues divulged by employee on confidential health questionnaire from a workplace accommodation perspective and does so with appropriate individuals involvement while also respecting confidentiality issues
  • Assists with development of Annual Influenza Campaign planning, organizing, scheduling and delivery of service
  • May assess or provide initial primary care for occupational illness and injury. Refers appropriately
  • May follow-up on employee communicable disease exposures (Blood and Body Fluid exposures, etc.)
  • Other general Occupational Health duties as assigned or required within scope of practice

Seniority shall be considered as a factor in vacancy selection (including promotions and transfer), demotion and if all other posted selection criteria are equal, it shall be considered as the governing factor. See Article 2502 in Collective Agreement.

The schedule will apply to Article 1501 - Shift schedules for a minimum of four (4) week period shall be posted at least two (2) weeks in advance of the beginning of the scheduled period. Shifts within the minimum four (4) week period shall not be altered after posting except by mutual agreement between the nurse(s) concerned and the Employer. Requests for specific days off duty shall be submitted in writing at least one (1) week prior to posting and granted, if possible in the judgment of the Employer.

As a condition of employment, successful candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening, Adult Abuse Registry Check, Child Abuse Registry Check and Prior Contact Check.

As a Condition of Employment, new hires must complete a series of Occupational Health checks. This includes the requirement to confirm immunization or immunity of specific communicable diseases. Successful applicants will also be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination prior to start date.
