Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Tax Accountant to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced professional services environment. As a Tax Accountant you will be involved in the preparation of tax returns, fielding internal tax-related inquiries from partners and managers, communicating with, and responding to inquiries from Canada Revenue Agency, and assisting accounting staff on tax issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparation of complex tax returns (T1's, T2's, T3s)
- Review of corporate tax returns (T2s)
- Review of tax assessment responses and T-slip matching requests
- Review of tax adjustments
- Review of CRA and Revenue Quebec forms
- Review of correspondence with CRA and Revenue Quebec
- Answering questions both within the tax department and outside the tax department
- Tax Research
- Ad-hoc projects
Education + Qualifications:
- CPA designation (or working towards completion) preferred.
- Bachelors degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in public accounting.
- Proven research skills
- Experience with Taxprep and Caseware is strongly preferred.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Organization, prioritization and time management: This role requires management of numerous concurrent tasks with different due dates and different priorities.
- Communication skills: Communication, both verbal and written, is a core skill in the tax department, which supports and provides tax guidance to the entire firm.
- Compliance with firm standards: The tax department is charged with monitoring and enforcing certain firm standards for file documentation. The expectation is for the person in this role to know the firms standards and check files for compliance.
