Overview:
The Team Leader directs the Safe Bed Program Team to focus on safety, stability and support for individuals in a mental health crisis who are in immediate contact with police but not suitable for incarceration or admission to the hospital. The Team Leader supervises and evaluates the Safe Bed Program Team with appropriate support to ensure excellence in the delivery of respectful, courteous and professional service. Functioning as a practicing clinician on the team, the Team Leader must be registered or licensed in one of the regulated health professions. The Team Leader reports to and is responsible to the Executive Director of Canadian Mental Health Association, Kenora Branch. The Team Leader is expected to work as a member of a team, is expected to participate in regular supervision by the Chief Executive Officer.


Qualifications:
Post graduate training in a mental health profession (Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Health management)
Registration or eligible for registration in a regulated health profession
Assessment/Evaluation Skills
Cultural Competence for Diverse Populations
Extensive knowledge of mental health and mental illness and treatment options
Applied knowledge of community resources and agencies
Networking skills and outreach skills
Ability to provide leadership to a group of colleagues
Time management and priority management skills
Supervisory experience
Highly developed communication skills, ability to encourage and confront
Ability to work independently
Professionalism in performance of duties
Computer literacy
Valid Drivers License
Criminal Records Check
Certification in CPR and First Aid or willingness to obtain same


Duties:
Adherence to all policies and procedures of Canadian Mental Health Association, Kenora Branch
Assurance of confidentiality of all client, personnel and organizational records and information
Provide leadership for program
Assessment of client needs and mental status and the development of appropriate treatment plans
Facilitate and monitor the implementation of client recovery plans
Direct the day to day clinical operations of the Safe Bed Program
Participate in hiring for the team
Ensure completion of Annual Performance Reviews for team colleagues including goal setting, education and training plans, and self-evaluation is completed by team colleagues
Report performance deficits to Chief Executive Officer and recommendations for action
Set agenda for regular team meetings
Ensure clients of the program are provided with responsive services based upon the Recovery Model
Responsible for Client Treatment Flow from Initial call to Intake completion and Service Delivery
Maintenance of client files and data files including updating of client information consistent with policies and procedures of CMHA Kenora Branch
Carry out and document quality-assurance activities and reviews of program services
Initiate and maintain collaboration with the Safe Bed Program and relationships with law enforcement and other human service agencies
Be available for crisis intervention and for emergency staff supervision and consultation which includes support for on-call support for the Safe Bed Program and other internal programs
identified by the Chief Executive Officer
Complete file audits on a semi-annual basis, at minimum
Assist team colleagues by providing debriefing
Participate in training and educational opportunities
Maintenance of professional qualifications
Participation in administrative and office functions
Prompt team colleagues in Self Care when indicated
Manage Vacation Schedules for the team and ensure Workplace coverage
Manage Education and Training requests of team colleagues and ensure training relationship to Employee Performance Goals
Provide leadership/mentorship to Student interns of the program
Report and make recommendations to the Chief Executive Officer through regular Team Leadership meetings
Develop and maintain program policies and procedures and revise as necessary
Participate on specific Committees or task or work groups as assigned by the Supervisor
Provide a safe environment by ensuring adherences to Workplace Health and Safety Regulations and Policies, Infection Control Guidelines, WHIMIS and Safe Work Procedures, including but not limited to Fire, Disaster and Evacuation Plans
Ensure client safety and client safety activities are emphasized throughout orientation of new staff members
Support an environment which avoids, prevents and corrects all activities or actions which may result in adverse outcome in the delivery of mental health services
Responsible for self-care
