About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Junior Hardware Engineer to support the development, testing, and refinement of our medical device hardware systems. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, you will assist in the design, prototyping, validation, and troubleshooting of our Velacur device.

This role reports to the Director of Product Development and is an in-person position at our office in Vancouver, BC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, assembly, and testing of prototype and production hardware systems.
  • Conduct bench testing, hardware validation, and performance analysis to ensure product reliability and safety.
  • Support the hardware team with the creation of prototypes for future hardware design.
  • Development of test jigs (combination of mechanical and electrical) for manufacturing subassemblies.
  • Contribute to internal usability testing of new software and hardware enhancements to understand how real users would interact with our product.
  • Source components, parts and products & coordinate with suppliers and vendors to purchase and expedite the delivery of key electro-mechanical components.
  • Support audits, documentation, and the companys Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including software, clinical and operations.
  • Communicate with Sales, Training, and the customer, as a member of the Customer Support team.
  • Other related duties, as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • 02 years of industry experience (internships/co-ops included).
  • Experienced in working in a workshop including both hand tools and advanced manufacturing tools.
  • Understanding of materials, plastic, and metal production processes.
  • Skills in 3D CAD software, including Solidworks and/or Fusion360.
  • Experienced in designing digital and/or analog circuits.
  • Experienced in PCB design (Altium Designer) and development.
  • Experienced in 3D printing, soldering, etc.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety and EMC testing.
  • Prior experience with product development, preferably with biomedical devices.
  • Experience in sourcing components and interacting with vendors.
  • Knowledge about I2C, UART, etc. and other common communication protocols.
  • Knowledge of programming languages: C++ or C, MATLAB, and firmware development (C,C++) is an asset.
