Job Summary

The Building Automation Commissioning and Performance Specialist is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality and performance in building automation systems installed and serviced by Ainsworth. This role involves developing and implementing quality assurance plans, conducting thorough testing and validation, and providing technical support throughout the commissioning process. The specialist will monitor system operations, analyze performance data, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize BAS functionality and performance. Additionally, the role includes documenting and reporting on system metrics, training staff on quality assurance processes, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement procedures for construction project commissioning.
  • Ensure compliance with commissioning standards and protocols being followed on large infrastructure projects, work closely with third party commissioning agents.
  • Develop technical evaluations, test plans, and update configuration specifications and drawings.
  • Prepare and present materials for energy conservation and make recommendations.
  • Document and report on building performance metrics, including energy usage, indoor air quality, and occupant comfort
  • Ensure that building and maintenance personnel receive the required training to operate building equipment and systems.
  • Work with building occupants to understand their needs and ensure the BAS meets their requirements.
  • Provide training and support to staff on BAS quality assurance processes and tools
  • Provide BAS technical and troubleshooting support to ongoing maintenance and calibration activities.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and repair of building automation systems, including networking and IT solutions.
  • Partner with the IT department to diagnose and resolve network performance and communication issues.
  • Define quality standards and metrics for BAS performance and reliability
  • Design and execute test plans to validate BAS functionality, performance, and security.
  • Conduct thorough testing of BAS components, including sensors, controllers, and software.
  • Monitor BAS operations to identify and resolve performance issues.
  • Conduct site observation visits and prepare field reports on the status and completion of projects.
  • Utilize detection and diagnostics software tools for monitoring system performance & health.
  • Analyze building performance data to identify inefficiencies and ensure optimal performance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent combination of experience and College Diploma.
  • Advanced degrees or certifications in BAS, Quality Assurance, or related disciplines are advantageous.
  • Proficiency in BAS software and tools, such as HVAC control systems, lighting control systems, and energy management systems.
  • Strong understanding of networking and IT principles related to BAS.
  • Experience with diagnostic tools and techniques for system monitoring and performance analysis
  • Several years of experience in BAS commissioning, quality assurance, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with system integration, testing, and validation.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements for BAS.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve system issues
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP), or similar is preferred.
  • Manufacturer-specific certifications for BAS systems (e.g., Delta, Honeywell, Johnson Controls) are beneficial
  • Valid driver's licence and the ability to be insured by Ainsworth Canada. Pass security screening as required by Ainsworth Canada's clients.
