REPORTS TO: Road Operations Manager
LOCATION: Initial Placement – Burford Customer Service Office
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Secondary school education and minimum 1year of related experience in locating multiple types of municipal underground infrastructure or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of locating equipment and underground infrastructure including water, wastewater, drainage, traffic signals, fibre optic, communications, electric and other systems.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret applicable engineering drawings and maps
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, Highway Traffic Act and OTM Book 7
  • Able to perform physical requirements of the position (e.g. field locates in all types of weather conditions, assist with snow removal in weather events)
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to organize work and resources in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Proven computer skills and comfort with technology including software such as email, Microsoft Word and Excel, and work management software. Knowledge of GIS and similar databases and creating electronic drawings with software packages.
  • Ability to operate light, medium, and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as necessary (overtime and on-call)
  • Demonstrated safe work practices.
  • Valid Class G driver's license and acceptable driver's abstract.
Assets:
  • Damage Prevention Technician (DPT) 100 or equivalent certification
  • Experience in public works and/or municipality.
Duties:
  • Safely and accurately perform multi-utility locates of County infrastructure using various locating methods and following prescribed documentation procedures and best practices.
  • Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of field locating equipment.
  • Use locating software to create, track, complete and share utility locates including electronic or manual drawings of locates.
  • Use computers, laptops and or tablets to receive, organize, complete and submit locates and prepare other required documentation.
  • Liaise with County staff, frontline utility locate representatives, and vendors on locating issues including creation, interpretation and review of drawings.
  • Communicate to members of the public about access to private property, processes and actions that locators undertake.
  • Work with County staff to ensure field feedback and data is incorporated into County mapping and applicable databases to ensure accurate mapping is maintained.
  • Comply with locate, health and safety and County policies and procedures including preparation of associated documentation.
  • Complete and maintain all daily legislative and non-legislative, County and other records as they pertain to utility locates and related work
  • Understand and utilize infrastructure records in planning/completing utility locates.
  • Review and stay up to date on all applicable regulations regarding the provision of locates.
  • Operate light, medium, and heavy equipment when required. Assist with snow removal during weather events.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Scheduled shifts may consist of 10-hour 4-day weeks or 8-hour 5-day weeks, may vary throughout the year to manage incoming locate requests
Hourly Rate: $25.91 (probationary) - $32.12 (full rate) 40 hours per week
