Are We The Right Fit For You?

Are you passionate about working with people?

Do you enjoy making a difference in people's lives?

We certainly do.

We believe that work should be a place where you can have fun while doing something meaningful.

We're currently looking for like-minded team members to join our movement, which is to provide the very best care and hospitality to our patients.

We've been redefining ourselves and working towards this ideal and, as times change, we change with them. We don't claim to be perfect, but we try very hard to be there for our patients when they need us and to guide them through the changes in their lives.

But we can't do it alone. As healthcare becomes more complex, we continually need new ideas and expertise to best serve our patients.

If this sounds like you, you may be a great fit for our team!

Why Join Us?

There are lots of great employers out there, and we believe that there is a right place for everyone.

We believe in lifelong learning and adapting to serve our patients' needs. We've been out in front of, and welcomed, the major evolutions in the profession. And we are excited about what's next.

We understand that your time at work is an important part of your life's journey, so we believe in providing opportunities for you to grow your skills and advance with us.

Taking care of those that provide services and care is important to us. As part of our benefits package, we provide annual fitness membership subsidy and access to mental health support and other counselling, should you ever need it.

We want you to be supported during your entire time with us and beyond, so we provide a competitive benefits package including health, dental and life insurance, drug coverage, and a pension plan that matches up to 4% of your contributions.

Finally, we believe in partnering and supporting other locally owned businesses to build stronger communities so we've made arrangements with a few of them to provide you with discounts on things like home heating oil, restaurants and goods and services at local retailers.

How You'll Spend Your Time

Our clinic is an outpatient opioid treatment program serving individuals from across PEI. We provide narcotic replacement therapy using Methadone and Suboxone maintenance in conjunction with services offered in behavioral health treatment for opioid use disorders. Of paramount importance is treating our patients with the highest level of dignity, respect, and empathy throughout their recovery journey as they move towards regaining control of their lives.

We are looking for an experienced Jr. Addiction Counsellor to join our clinic's team. The position requires a professional that is personable and focused on providing exceptional care in a sensitive and busy environment.

Like any role, there are, of course, some precise duties that will need to be performed such as

  • Work with people struggling with mental health and addiction issues.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of client centered mental health and addictions interventions, practice methods, and professional skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources, treatment centres, social service networks, and organizations.
  • Refer and connect to appropriate services, provide monitoring, reassessment, and follow up.
  • Initiate and participate in case conferencing.
  • Knowledge of funding agencies available to assist clients in accessing needed support services and community services.
  • Mental health and addiction screening, assessment, intake, education, crisis and therapeutic interventions, counsel based on individual and cultural patient needs, as well as promote and develop harm reduction strategies.
  • Develop individualized treatment plan and goals, monitor and supporting patient development through self-assessment, assist in goal setting, and adapt treatment plans.
  • Create case plans/outcomes for patients and work alongside community resource programs to help patients achieve those outcomes.
  • Assist patients in engaging with volunteer, workforce, and educational opportunities.
  • Establish inclusive and respectful therapeutic relations with patients, case documentation, progress notes, and patient summary reports.
  • Work effectively within an inter-professional clinic team. Maintain strong professional relationships with administrative professionals, physicians, pharmacists, and nurses, both in the clinic and the wider community.
  • Advocate with, and on behalf of, patients.
  • Education and outreach services: Respond to general clinic and substance use disorder inquiries, enhance relations with community partners by delivering presentations on clinic services and general substance use disorders (including methadone/suboxone), attend community partners workshops and seminars, represent Clinic on regional and provincial committees

But there are a few simple things that will determine your success on our team, and your enjoyment in your role.

Quite simply, treat your fellow team members as you would like to be treated.

Our most successful team members will always aim to do what is right, while keeping things simple and predictable. Team members continuously look for opportunities to improve the patient's experience. It's what we believe in.

What You Will Bring To The Team

Our team is patient-focused and believes in a high level of attention to detail, professionalism and discretion. And as healthcare professionals, we also believe in lifelong learning and the ability to work under pressure. We value diverse backgrounds and what that brings to our team and we want to hear more about what makes you unique.

In addition to what makes you unique, there are a few basics that we require for this role:

  • Applicants must have a Degree in Social Work or related field.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), relationship building, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work harmoniously within an inter-professional team environment.
  • Comfortable advocating and collaborating with a wide array of community resources including nurses, pharmacists, physicians, law enforcement, child and family workers, social assistance employees, etc.
  • Additional qualifications considered to be an asset:
  • Registration as a Certified Canadian Addiction Counsellor,
  • Concurrent Disorder Professional Certification
  • Opioid Dependence Treatment Professional Certification
  • Coursework and/or direct experience with patients and the interactions between psychiatric medications and drugs of abuse.
