About the Role:

YMCA of Northern Alberta is looking for a student hoping to gain summer experience in Health & Safety. In this role, you will have the opportunity to be exposed to our Day Camp work environment, supporting leaders in ensuring those under our care this summer are kept safe!

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate, motivate, encourage, and ensure a safe and fun environment for all campers AND get paid to develop valuable skills!
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all participants, staff, and volunteers.
  • Promote a personal understanding of and appreciation for the mission, diversity, and social inclusion of the YMCA.
  • Attend all Day Camp training and other YMCA training sessions as required.
  • Support camp staff by conducting routine safety checks of facilities, equipment, and program spaces.
  • Assist in identifying potential safety concerns and communicating them to the appropriate staff.
  • Help ensure all safety protocols and procedures are followed during camp activities.
  • Provide basic first aid as needed and support staff in responding to incidents or emergencies.
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records of safety inspections, incidents, and first aid supplies.
  • Collaborate with other coordinators and team members to promote a culture of safety and awareness at camp.
  • Deliver high-quality support through excellent relationships with campers, parents, and YMCA staff.
  • Role model a commitment to safety, teamwork, and active participation in camp activities.
  • Learn and apply essential health and safety skills, gaining hands-on experience in a supportive environment.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating enthusiasm, responsibility, and a proactive approach to maintaining a safe and enjoyable camp experience for everyone

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Access to a reliable vehicle to visit other YMCA locations
  • Current and Cleared Police Information Check
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations in a calm and professional manner
  • Administration experience is an asset
