Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this position is responsible for the design, programming, and deployment of
industrial control systems, including control panels, PLC/HMI/SCADA programming, and automation architecture.
The role includes hands-on support for system commissioning at customer sites and integration of IoT/IIoT
technologies for remote monitoring, data logging, and analytics in smart manufacturing environments.


Primary Duties


Engineering/Technical Responsibilities
• Prepare, review, and approve drawings, bills of materials, and other engineering documentations.
• Review and interpret project specifications, engineering codes, and standards to ensure compliance during
all phases of the design and manufacturing process.
• Issue technical documents and drawing packages for the manufacture of products.
• Provide engineering and technical support to Internal (Sales, Production, Purchasing, and Quality
departments) and external clients.
• Participate in client meetings, kick-off meetings, design review meetings, operation meetings
• Ensure that all electrical control panels meet regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and internal
quality standards.
• Control Panel Design.
• Design and specify industrial control panels compliant with UL 508A, CSA C22.2, and NFPA 79 standards.
• Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, I/O lists, and BOMs using CAD tools (AutoCAD
Electrical, SEE Electrical, EPLAN).
• Select and size electrical components (breakers, contactors, PLCs, VFDs, safety relays, etc.) for process
equipment.
• Collaborate with manufacturing for panel build, conduct FAT, and support documentation control.
• Automation and Programming.
• Develop PLC programs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, etc.) and HMI applications to control industrial
systems.
• Implement control logic for process sequences, alarms, interlocks, and safety shutdown systems.
• Configure industrial networks including EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC UA, etc.
• Integrate VFDs, soft starters, instrumentation (RTDs, thermocouples, pressure/flow transmitters), and
actuators.

Site Installation & Commissioning
• Participate in on-site commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting of control systems and automation
equipment.
• Verify wiring, perform I/O checks, test interlocks, and validate control sequences against functional
requirements.
• Provide technical support during site acceptance testing (SAT) and customer handover.
• IoT / IIoT Integration.
• Integrate control systems with edge devices, gateways, and cloud platforms for real-time data access and
analytics.

• Enable remote monitoring, data logging, and performance dashboards using IIoT tools (e.g., MQTT, OPC
UA, REST APIs).
• Collaborate with software teams on Industry 4.0 initiatives, predictive maintenance, and digital twin
development.
• Ensure data security and connectivity reliability in OT/IT convergence environments.


Project Documentation & Support
• Create detailed control narratives, sequence of operations (SoO), and user manuals.
• Support cross-functional teams (mechanical, software, field service) during the full project lifecycle.
• Provide post-commissioning support, troubleshooting, and system optimization remotely or on-site.

Safety
• Ensure a safe workplace, including compliance with established safety laws, regulations, codes, policies, and
procedures.

Education and Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, SEE Electrical and/or SOLIDWORKS
Electrical.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is an asset.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant industrial working experience with a focus on power systems, control systems.
and automation. Experience in process heating systems, skid-mounted units, or energy systems is a strong asset.
• PLC experience with medium and low voltage equipment.
• Working knowledge with PLC programming is preferred. Proficiency with industrial PLC/HMI platforms (e.g.,
Rockwell Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal, FactoryTalk View).
• Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices for industrial automation (ISA/IEC 62443).
• Knowledge of cloud integration, edge computing, or OPC UA-based architectures is a strong asset.
• Working knowledge of industrial networking and communication protocols.
• Familiar with the following codes and standards is preferred:
o Canadian Electrical Code, CSA 22.1, CSA 22.2 No.14, 25, 30.
o NFPA 70, 496.
o UL 508, 508A, 698, 698A.
o Applicable IEC standards for both unclassified area and hazardous area (IEC 60079-0 & 60079-1).
o ATEX, Low Voltage, EMC directives.

Skills

• Strong written, communication skills and the ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong electrical design background and attention to detail.
• Knowledge of ERP systems used in manufacturing is preferred.
• Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to travel globally for commissioning and technical support (up to 20–30% as needed).
