From its mills in Halifax, Nova Scotia; Montreal, Quebec; Acton, Hanover, and Cambridge, Ontario; Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; and Lethbridge, Alberta, the P&H Milling Group supplies flour to customers throughout Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Iceland, and Pacific Rim countries.Your RoleAs Head Miller, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring efficient, productive, and effective operations of all milling units to produce consistent products that conforms quality standards at optimum level of flour extraction while promoting and enforcing food safety and health and safety program to the workforce at the highest degree. This position is also responsible in managing other areas of the milling department such as grain receiving section and other milling related operations. This position reports to the Operations Manager.Day to Day
- Direct, manage, coordinate, and schedule the activities of Millers and staff in the milling department.
- Provides operational and technical support to the respective team and other departments.
- Ensure that the target optimum extraction and production utilization of each milling unit are achieved and maintained.
- Perform process analysis and evaluation in efforts to improve overall operations, productivity, food safety and health and safety.
- Perform milling performance evaluations, inspection, and follow up on assigned duties.
- Implement and manage wheat grist changes as required.
- Monitor, control and focus on improving efficiencies in the Mill through communication, troubleshooting, and working with staff.
- Liaise with production planning and maintenance on flour demand requirements and scheduled downtimes.
- Work with staff to develop standardized operating procedures (SOP).
- Maintain documents and records in accordance with pertinent regulatory and company policies, procedures, and standards.
- Ensure Health and Safety programs, policies, and procedures are being implemented and enforced.
- Maintain a safe working environment and a high standard of housekeeping and sanitation in accordance with BRCGS (Brand Reputation Compliance Global Standards) and Food Safety procedures.
- Conduct performance review and management which includes fair and effective disciplinary action, as required, in accordance with the Company policies and standards.
- Ensure the ongoing training and development of all personnel in accordance with company policies and standards.
- Work with the Maintenance Manager in developing and maintaining the Mill preventive maintenance program.
- Performs materials and supplies requisition and approval and ensure effective inventory management and control.
- Completion of secondary education with a degree or diploma in flour milling technology from Swiss Milling School or UK Flour Millers or equivalent training in flour milling science and technology is required.
- A minimum of 10 years of industry experience in the food or beverage processing or manufacturing industry.
- A minimum of 5 years of related supervisory experience is required with preference given to prior experience as a Head Miller, Assistant Head Miller or Mill Supervisor.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office application including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
- Previous experience managing in a represented, multi-shift operation is preferred.
