Position:
The Construction Manager is a disciplined, process-oriented leader with strong organizational skills and comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of landscape construction. Reporting to the President, the Construction Manager is responsible for scheduling and managing all Fossil Specialty Trade Teams - Masonry, Carpentry, Horticulture and Irrigation. The Construction Manager is also responsible for leading Special Projects and overseeing all machines and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Specialty Team Production and Quality
- Schedule and assign daily/weekly tasks for specialty crews
- Ensure teams are equipped with all necessary materials and equipment to execute the work
- Set and track production goals for specialty teams
- Stay current with industry best practices and construction innovations
- Uphold high-quality standards across all work
- Ensure consistency in techniques and adherence to specifications
- Review sequencing, methodology, and materials before each project phase
Specialty Team Development
- Supervise all Specialty Leads and their crews, supporting leadership and growth
- Facilitate ongoing development of team members skills and technical knowledge
- Oversee industry accreditation processes, including Red Seal assessments
- Build and support autonomous specialty teams capable of executing work independently
- Manage all HR-related aspects of the team in coordination with HR, including recruitment, performance reviews, and compensation planning
Special Projects Management
- Lead the planning and execution of special projects such as small construction builds, maintenance enhancements, and early-phase construction tasks
- Supervise the Special Projects Coordinator and provide guidance on resource planning
- Allocate appropriate resources and schedule tasks to ensure timely and efficient project completion
Machines & Equipment Oversight
- Assign and monitor equipment use to maximize productivity
- Ensure all equipment operations meet safety standards and regulations
- Conduct cost-benefit analyses for new equipment acquisitions
- Research and evaluate equipment innovations to ensure the company remains current with industry standards
Company-Wide Schedule Management
- Maintain and manage the overall project schedule across all construction activities
- Lead the creation and execution of advance scheduling for company-wide operations
Qualifications
- Proven experience in construction project management and project planning
- In-depth knowledge of exterior construction and landscape installation best practices, products, and specialty trades
- Strong leadership capabilities with the ability to motivate, mentor, and train team members
- Advanced problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate and navigate challenges across multiple projects
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex construction concepts to diverse stakeholders
- Proficient in reading and interpreting landscape plans and construction drawings
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of project execution
- Effective time management skills with a solid understanding of scheduling and resource allocation
- Comprehensive knowledge of landscape terminology, construction materials, and installation techniques
- Certified BC Supervisor for Safety, with completion of relevant industry training and courses
