Role Summary:
As the HR Business Partner, you will serve as the companys primary HR leader, responsible for driving people strategy and executing HR operations across the Hall Group of Companies. Reporting to the CFO, this is a hands-on, strategic generalist role supporting leaders and employees across the full employee lifecycle. You will shape HR programs, reinforce company culture, and ensure compliance with evolving HR standardsall while supporting a growing and dynamic construction business with over 700 employees across multiple entities.
Core Responsibilities:
Employee Relations, Culture & Compliance
- Act as the first point of contact for employee relations issues; coach managers on performance, corrective action, and workplace best practices.
- Champion company culture, employee engagement, and leadership development initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with HR laws and employment standards.
- Coordinate with the health & safety team on programming in line with WorkSafe BC.
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Collaborate with hiring managers to execute hiring plans aligned with workforce forecasting.
- Oversee onboarding and orientation programs to ensure new hires are well-supported from day one.
- Create and execute retention strategies to reduce turnover and improve employee experience.
Performance & Talent Management
- Lead the development and rollout of performance review cycles, feedback tools, and development plans.
- Support managers with goal setting, mentorship, and succession planning.
- Design and deliver leadership training to grow internal talent.
HR Programs, Policy & Systems
- Lead HR program development across compensation, benefits, training, and employee recognition.
- Develop, update, and communicate employee policies and procedures.
- Administer HRIS systems and improve reporting on key HR metrics.
- Partner with finance and payroll on compensation reviews, workforce planning, and budgeting.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient with HRIS systems. (BambooHR or equivalent)
- Knowledge across all core HR areas: recruitment, employee relations, performance, compensation, training, health & safety.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
Interpersonal Skills:
- Comfortable operating as the sole HR leader within the company.
- Proactive, solutions-focused, and confident in delivering feedback and direction.
- Strong business acumen and ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and presentation skills.
- Able to handle confidential and sensitive matters with professionalism.
Qualifications:
- Minimum five years of HR generalist or business partner experience.
- Proven ability to manage the full employee lifecycle independently or in a small team.
- Post-secondary education in HR management, business, or a related field.
- CPHR designation is an asset.
