Position Title: Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) Dentistry

The Dentistry & Oral Surgery department at Pulse Veterinary Specialists & Emergency has a tremendous opportunity for an RVT aspiring to elevate their career. We are seeking candidates for a position on our team to work with Dr. Christopher Sauv DAVDC with our resident-in training, Dr. Karen Hui.

Fundamental experience and knowledge in dentistry is important, but candidates will be provided with supportive training in the essential skills (anesthesia, dental cleaning and charting, intraoral radiographs, CT image acquisition) to help them grow. We work closely with our veterinarian that is residency-trained in anesthesia to ensure our patients receive the best care possible.

Position Summary
The Dentistry Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) is empowered and responsible to act as a highly trained RVT on the clinical floor to set an example of patient care, client care, and teamwork at Pulse Veterinary Specialists & Emergency.

This role will allow for a compressed work week with four 10-hour shifts. Overtime hours will be required as needed for urgent surgical cases.
Duties and Responsibilities
Performs all technical responsibilities of a RVT including:
Usage and care of medical equipment, as well as sterilization techniques.
Placing IV catheters; calculating drug doses, fluid requirements and CRIs.
Dental cleaning and charting
Acquiring high quality intra-oral radiographs.
Acquiring CT images
Monitoring anesthesia.
Use of anesthesia ventilators and multiparameter monitors.
Perform local dental blocks
Performing CPR.
Performing advanced diagnostic tests.
Monitor hospitalized patients, performing recovery care
Help manage department schedule, including consults, rechecks and procedures.
Provides education, home care instructions, and nutritional counseling to customers.
Responsible for operatory room set-up, clean up, and quick turn over between procedures.
Perform decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and storage of surgical supplies.
Report problems or malfunctioning equipment to supervisor.
Requirement to participate in dentistry on-call schedule.
Supports management of customer complaints as required in partnership with the Lead Specialty RVT and Hospital Manager, interacting with clientele to deescalate, resolve, and/or escalate issues in a timely fashion.
Maintains practice software including client and patient record management.
Follows all SOPs to support smooth hospital operations.
Follows all federal and provincial animal health laws and regulations regarding workplace health and safety.
Openly and proactively communicates updates to DVMs, Lead Specialty RVT and other department team members. Prioritize interdepartmental synergy by maintaining open lines of communication with other departments.
Other duties may be assigned as required.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
Education and Experience
Animal Health Technology college diploma.
Registered member of the ABVMA
Fundamental experience and knowledge in dentistry
