Who You Are:

You play a critical role in supporting the Class Action practice group with the complex procedural and substantive demands of class proceedings under the Class Proceedings Act. Your responsibilities extend beyond traditional litigation support and require a high degree of attention to detail, organization, communication, and legal acumen. You excel in fast-paced environments, have a solutions-focused mindset, and value collaboration. As a key member of the team, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional legal support to our clients, managing essential tasks such as drafting correspondence, preparing legal documents, and effectively handling client communications. Your experience and proactive approach will contribute significantly to our mission of providing top-tier legal service.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Client Intake & Preliminary Investigation
    • Assist in gathering and organizing claimant information
    • Conduct initial fact-finding and client interviews
    • Assist in identifying common issues across proposed class members
  • Evidence Management
    • Collect and summarize key documents, including contracts, consumer complaints, medical records (if applicable), and correspondence
    • Prepare chronologies and document summaries
  • Legal Research & Drafting
    • Conduct legal research on commonality, procedural requirements, and case law
    • Assist in drafting pleadings, including the Notice of Civil Claim, certification applications, and affidavits
  • Court Filing & Scheduling
    • Manage court filings (e.g., Notices of Civil Claim, affidavits, expert reports)
    • Liaise with registries to confirm deadlines and manage timelines for certification hearings
  • Class Member Communication & Administration
    • Assist in preparing and disseminating certification notices (via mail, email, or publication)
    • Maintain databases of class members and opt-outs
    • Respond to inquiries from class members, providing procedural information (but not legal advice)
  • Case Management
    • Manage large volumes of documents using eDiscovery platforms
    • Assist in organizing discovery responses and productions from defendants
    • Coordinate with third parties, such as experts and investigators
  • Court Preparation
    • Organize exhibits, briefs, and hearing binders
    • Prepare timelines, summaries, and witness lists
    • Coordinate logistics for certification hearings or summary judgment motions
  • Settlement Processing
    • Assist in administering approved settlements, including managing claims portals and paper-based claim forms
    • Review and process claims submissions for completeness and accuracy
    • Track claimant correspondence and verify documentation
  • Disbursement Oversight
    • Coordinate with accounting or external administrators for payment distribution
    • Monitor deadlines, appeals, and disputed claims
  • Reporting
    • Prepare internal or court-ordered reports on class participation, claim volumes, and settlement disbursement
    • Maintain audit trails and compliance documentation for court approval

What You Bring:

We are looking for a Legal Assistant who embodies a blend of experience, expertise, and a proactive mindset to excel in our fast-paced and dynamic legal environment. Ideal candidates will possess:


  • Extensive Experience: A minimum of 7 years as a Legal Assistant, specifically in Class Actions, with a strong understanding of BC's rules of civil procedure, the Class Proceedings Act, court systems, and legal terminology.

  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Outlook, and the ability to quickly learn and utilize other legal software. Familiarity with Filevine is an asset.

  • Attention to Detail: Maintain a high degree of attention to detail across all aspects of class action litigation, including drafting, document management, and claims processing, ensuring accuracy and adherence to procedural rules.

  • Adaptability and Drive: Proven ability to thrive under pressure, meet weekly targets, and manage tight deadlines effectively.

  • Exceptional Organizational Skills: Strong prioritization abilities, with acute attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness.
