Management

The Bog Manager is a key player in driving the company's success. They must plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the bog operations. They must lead the production crew and have the ability to stay calm under pressure. They are responsible for overseeing all harvesting operations and ensure that production goals are achieved. Often the point person for multiple parties, they must be able to communicate with everyone effectively. In addition, they must have the capability to work within a team environment, take pride in the quality of their work and follow directions.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Promote safety culture and guarantee compliance with guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Develop, guide and inspire team members to build and maintain a high-performance organization.
  • Monitor quality assurance and sustainability programs.
  • Assess overall site productivity and identify potential improvements.
  • Collaborate with other leaders to meet production goals while complying with industry policies.
  • Provide strategic advice on operational efficiency.
  • Actively involved in the building of yearly operational and capital budget requests while meeting cost targets.
  • Generate production summaries and updates on peat operations.
  • Assign and lead team members' work.
  • Maintain links with the management team and coordinate activities with the other departments.
  • Participate in production planning and inventory management.
  • Organize the storage, transfer and shipping of raw materials.
  • Make sure that team members use equipment according to standard operating procedures.
  • Oversee the implementation of the preventative maintenance program.
  • Anticipate and coordinate repairs, or replacement, of equipment.
  • Promote the system for continuous improvement.
  • Manage the availability and usage of materials and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
  • Proven experience or knowledge of industry norms and regulations in the peat industry would be an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of the workplace Health and Safety regulations and ability to institute their practice to maintain everyone's safety.
  • Knowledge of mechanics, electricity, hydraulics, pneumatics and electronics.
  • Knowledge of supply and inventory management methods.
  • Knowledge of production management methods.
  • Positive energy and attitude.
  • High Initiative, self-motivation and reliable.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with contractors, vendors, teammates and visitors.
Education and Experience
  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Post secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, considered an asset.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a leadership role is required, with skills in operations management.
  • Knowledge of horticultural products, containing peat moss, their characteristics and their specifications for production, storage and handling considered an asset.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
