Our client is a boutique CPA firm based in Edmonton, serving a diverse client base of small to mid-sized businesses across various industries. Known for personalized service and technical expertise, the firm is expanding and seeking a seasoned Bookkeeping Manager to help lead its bookkeeping team and ensure exceptional service delivery to clients.
Position Summary:
The Bookkeeping Manager has a key leadership role within the firm, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the bookkeeping department. This role includes managing client relationships, reviewing the work of junior bookkeepers, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and contributing to the overall efficiency of the firm's bookkeeping processes. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong bookkeeping background who is looking to take on a leadership role in a professional setting.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the bookkeeping team, assigning work, setting deadlines, and providing guidance and training
  • Oversee and review full-cycle bookkeeping for a portfolio of small business clients
  • Ensure accurate bank and credit card reconciliations, payroll processing, GST filings, and month-end closings
  • Act as the primary point of contact for client bookkeeping inquiries
  • Collaborate with accountants and partners to ensure alignment of client financial records for tax planning and year-end reporting
  • Implement process improvements and ensure compliance with internal standards and best practices
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, Sage)
  • Manage workflows, and improve workflows and final presentation to clients
  • Support onboarding of new clients and recommend cloud-based bookkeeping tools where appropriate
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of full-cycle bookkeeping experience, preferably in a public accounting or multi-client environment
  • 2+ years of supervisory or team lead experience
  • Strong working knowledge of cloud accounting tools
  • Solid understanding of payroll, GST/HST, and financial statement preparation
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and time management skills
  • Strong client service and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Degree in accounting, bookkeeping, or business administration (CPA designation is an asset but required)
