Job Summary:
The Trailer Air Brake Mechanic will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and
maintaining trailer air brake systems and related components. This role requires in-depth
knowledge of trailer mechanics, especially air brake systems, and the ability to work efficiently
in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspect, diagnose, and repair air brake systems on trailers
Perform regular maintenance and safety checks on trailers and braking components
Replace or repair brake drums, shoes, valves, chambers, slack adjusters, and other parts
Troubleshoot and resolve air system issues including leaks, malfunctions, and
adjustments
Ensure repairs are completed in compliance with DOT and company safety standards
Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and parts used
Collaborate with other mechanics and supervisors to prioritize repair schedules
Keep work area clean, organized, and safe
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training preferred
Minimum 4–5 years of hands-on experience working with trailer air brake systems
Strong knowledge of trailer components and braking systems
Familiarity with DOT regulations and safety standards
Ability to operate power tools, diagnostic equipment, and lifting equipment safely
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and work in various weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in trailer repair or heavy-duty brake systems
CDL license (not required but an asset)
Welding or fabrication experience is a plus
