The Controller safeguards company assets, reports financial results and makes recommendations for actions based upon financial circumstances. They will develop, analyze, and interpret statistical and accounting information to ensure profitability, capital expenditures, and performance against budget are within established guidelines.
Responsibilities
Full Cycle Accounting
· Maintain a system of review, approval, and controls over accounting transactions
· Interface with outside audit firms, banks, insurance agents, credit card companies, etc as required
· Accountable for the management of:
o the accuracy and integrity of the balance sheet and income statement in accordance with Canadian GAAP, IFRS & company guidelines
o the general ledger and maintaining the chart of accounts
o all accounting operations with particular focus on inventory accounting
o all financial operations relating to ERP
· Accountable for the oversight of the month end, quarter end, and year end accounting close:
o Ensure all entries are booked and analytics prepared
o Analyze the financial results and provide explanations for variances
o Prepare ad hoc analysis to support the variance analysis
o Be prepared for the month end close meeting
o Follow up on action items throughout the month
Internal Controls & Compliance
· Safeguard assets and assure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing internal controls and checks across all departments
· Establish and monitor internal controls to ensure that finance and accounting activities are in accordance with established legal regulatory and company policies and procedures
· Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures
· Ensure that all statutory requirements of the organization are met
· Document and maintain complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions
Qualifications
· Experience as a financial controller or an equivalent accounting position in a manufacturing environment
· Advanced degree in Accounting; CPA or CMA preferred
· Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
· Experience with creating financial statements; Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
· Comprehensive understanding of fully integrated ERP systems
· Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
