About the Role

Tress L'ounge Canada Corp. is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Barrister and Solicitor to join our executive team as In-House Counsel. This role is critical to managing legal compliance, supporting franchise development, and advising leadership across operational, contractual, and regulatory matters.

As a luxury brand with growing national and international operations, we require legal expertise that supports the company's expansion, protects its intellectual and commercial interests, and ensures full compliance with corporate, franchise, and employment laws.

Key Responsibilities

Corporate & Commercial Law

  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, leases, NDAs, service contracts, and vendor/supplier agreements

  • Advise on corporate governance, business structuring, and strategic transactions

  • Support the development and management of corporate policies and internal compliance protocols

Franchise & Licensing

  • Review and update franchise disclosure documents and franchise agreements

  • Advise on compliance with provincial franchise laws and national regulatory frameworks

  • Support franchise onboarding, renewals, and dispute resolution

Labour & Employment Law

  • Advise on contracts with independent contractors, employment law compliance, and workplace policies

  • Assist HR in addressing disputes, terminations, and compliance with OHSA standards

  • Draft employment and contractor agreements as needed

Dispute Resolution & Litigation Support

  • Respond to legal complaints, coordinate with external counsel where applicable

  • Advise on potential liabilities and litigation risks, and manage small claims processes

  • Support conflict resolution strategies with staff, vendors, or franchisees

Regulatory & Compliance Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws in the beauty, salon, food & beverage, and franchising industries

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal/provincial regulations affecting the business

  • Liaise with government bodies as needed on licensing or compliance matters

Executive & Board-Level Support

  • Provide timely legal updates to senior executives and stakeholders

  • Participate in business strategy meetings to provide legal and risk-based insights

  • Maintain the company's legal records, trademark filings, and minute books

Required Qualifications
  • LLB or JD from a recognized Canadian law school

  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario (LSO)

  • 3-5 years of experience in corporate/commercial law (in-house or private practice)

  • Experience with franchise law and employment law is highly preferred

  • Strong legal drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills

  • Exceptional communication and discretion with confidential information

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple legal priorities in a fast-paced environment

Work Conditions & Compensation
  • Full-time, in-office role (Monday to Friday, 9:30 AM 6:00 PM)

  • Located at our Head Office in Brampton, ON
