Salary:

We are seeking a Staff Accountant to support the Financial Controller in overseeing the daily operations of the finance department for two hotels.

A 164 Room hotel and conference centre, with a full service restaurant located in AB, and a 95 room hotel with conference facilities located in BC.

The Staff Accountant plays a key role in AR & AP, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis.

This role ensures accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, regulatory compliance, and the effective management of the hotel's financial resources.

The role in based IN OFFICE in Canmore AB. Remote is not available.

Salaried Year round position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee daily postings from Night Audit, PMS, Shift 4/Elavon to ensure upmost accuracy in financial records including working with front office and sales teams for posting & billing accuracy
  • Daily audit of reports and posting journals from both properties
  • Manage and oversee daily accounting functions, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
  • Assisting with timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes, including working with the Controller to prepare the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards and corporate policies.
  • Review the variances in month end reporting and investigate/analyze.
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting process, including variance analysis.
  • Monitor internal controls and financial procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance with hotel policies and government regulations.
  • Coordinate and assist with internal audits.
  • Assist the Controller to analyze financial performance and provide actionable insights to department heads and hotel management.
  • Maintain accounting records, documentation, and filing systems in an organized and secure manner.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 13 years of experience in hotel finance or accounting; prior experience required
  • Strong knowledge of USALI (Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry) and hotel accounting standards.
  • Proficiency with Great Plains preferred
  • Experience with Property Management system (Infor) (Visual Matrix)
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
