Role Overview

As the (Senior) Marketing Content Specialist, you will play a key role in shaping how the organization communicates across digital channels. Reporting to the Marketing Manager and working in close collaboration with greater Communications & Public Affairs team, youll be the driving force behind clear, consistent, and compelling content that champions Mitacs and supports strategic campaigns.

Youll collaborate with the Marketing Manager, Analyst, and Specialist to lead campaign content efforts, and partner with Communications to ensure alignment on tone, messaging, positioning, and audience engagement strategies across all public-facing platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Content Leadership & Strategy

  • Own the end-to-end creation of two flagship newslettersIndustry (audience of 7,000) and General/Public (audience of 68,000)including content planning, drafting, editing, and collaboration with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment with strategic goals and audience needs.
  • Lead the development of digital content that supports organizational goals and maintains brand consistency across all marketing channels, including email, paid social media, marketing collateral, and the website.
  • Develop and maintain key sections of the organizations web content, ensuring messaging is current, relevant, and optimized for user experience and SEO.
  • Collaborate closely with the Communications & Public Affairs team to align marketing content with overarching awareness goals, brand positioning, and core messaging.
  • Co-create and uphold messaging frameworks that shape campaign narratives, guide persona-specific targeting, and establish a consistent content tone.
  • Translate internal knowledge, case studies, and sector insights into compelling, audience-appropriate content tailored for industry and stakeholder audiences.

Integrated Campaign Execution

  • Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to develop campaign storylines that blend organizational priorities with the interests of key audiences, particularly industry leaders, professors, and academic researchers.
  • Create, adapt, and optimize content for multi-channel campaigns (landing pages, one-pagers, newsletters, thought leadership, and social).
  • Ensure campaign assets (written and visual) consistently reflect the organization's value proposition and strategic priorities.

Web Content Optimization & SEO

  • Partner with the Communications team to keep web content optimized, on-message, and accessible.
  • Work with the Marketing Analyst to translate data insights and audience behavior into actionable content improvements.
  • Maintain consistency in metadata, headlines, alt-text, and calls-to-action across digital platforms.

Email & Automation Content

  • Collaborate with the Marketing Specialist on the planning, content creation, and optimization of email workflows, newsletters, and nurture sequences.
  • Align automation content with campaign narratives and long-term brand building objectives.

Brand Stewardship & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely across Communications and Public Affairs team to align marketing campaigns within broader awareness communications and strategy.
  • Ensure that tone, language, and design across digital and print materials reflect brand values and editorial standards.
  • Participate in editorial alignment meetings to ensure cohesion across PR, internal comms, and marketing content calendars.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in content writing, digital marketing, or brand communications.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills across digital and print mediums.
  • Experience developing content that aligns with brand frameworks, personas, and campaign goals.
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress), marketing automation (e.g., HubSpot), and SEO tools (e.g., SEMrush, GA4).
  • Deep understanding of inclusive communication, accessibility standards, and organizational tone of voice.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in B2B, public affairs, or mission-driven organizations is a strong asset.
  • French an asset.
  • Knowledge of written and spoken English is required in this role as you will interact with colleagues, clients and stakeholders located across Canada

Hiring Range:

$64, 640 - $76,760

Only in rare and exceptional circumstances, where a candidate has the experience, skills, and expertise that far exceed those required for the position, would we consider paying above the hiring range for this role.
