Position Title:
9-8-8 Crisis Line Responder
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for responding to calls or texts on the 9-8-8 national line, to offer suicide prevention and emotional distress support to individuals in need & those concerned about someone who may be in need.
The Crisis Line Responder will need to have a flexible schedule with availability to work overnight, weekends and days. There are multiple openings for this position, with flexibility for full or part-time hours.
Key Responsibilities:
Respond to phone and text interactions during assigned shifts which includes overnights and weekends
Utilize communication, facilitation, conflict management, and interpersonal skills to carry out the duties and responsibilities
Provide non-judgmental emotional support and suicide or crisis intervention, which includes assessment, problem solving, and exploring resources for call or texting service users
Complete risk assessment, safety planning and de-escalation with service users
Implement active rescues when an intervention is required following clear procedures
Maintain accurate and detailed reports and complete processes including all legally required reporting
Liaise and collaborate with other members of the Crisis Line team and other teams within KCR
Qualifications & Skills:
Post-secondary education in a relevant field with preference to a degree in (Social work, Psychology, or Nursing)
Excellent interpersonal, cross-cultural, written and verbal communication skills
Outgoing, positive and friendly personality
Demonstrated computer proficiency, typing skills
Crisis Intervention training / Suicide Training would be an asset
Able to work flexible hours that includes evenings, weekends, and/or overnights as required
Pass a police record check that includes vulnerable sector screening
Successful completion of all employer provided, 9-8-8 Crisis Line training, including orientation and observation required shifts
