SUMMARY

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Cost Accountant is responsible for a variety of cost accounting and financial reporting functions for a division of Doman.

EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS

  • Participate in completing month-end close under tight reporting deadlines.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliation.
  • Prepare monthly GST/PST/QST returns.
  • Analyze and prepare monthly journal entries for accrual, prepayment and inventory accounts.
  • Inventory costing monitoring and analysis.
  • Maintain inventory database with regards to items coding.
  • Oversee the accounting related process of the work order process and provide support and guidance as needed.
  • In collaborating with the internal audit department participate in evaluating and improving accounting process and internal controls within the division.
  • Monthly reporting and variance analysis on financial results.
  • Participate in division's annual budgeting process.
  • Coordinate with Treasury for division's daily cash requirements.
  • Assist with preparing notes to financial statements.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Analytical mindset to participate in evaluating accounting processes and provide recommendations for improvements.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to work under tight reporting deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of the employees, management, and external agencies.
  • Experience working with ERP systems is an asset.
  • Manufacturing experience in building materials or related industry considered an asset.

EDUCATION

  • Post secondary education in Finance or Accounting

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • The typical hiring range for this position is $60,000 - $75,000 annually. The base pay offered is based on geographical location and may vary depending on the applicant's job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. Similar positions located in other geographical locations may not necessarily receive the same salary range. The compensation information is an estimate and provided to meet with applicable provincial Pay Transparency legislation.

HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday, 8am-4:30pm
