Stonehenges Residential program is a Therapeutic Community, which is a group-based, highly structured, and powerful treatment approach to substance use recovery. At our Residential center, we work with adult individuals with a history of chronic or acute substance abuse concerns, with or without co-occurring mental health diagnosis. Many of the individuals we work with also have current or previous involvement with the correctional system.

The Therapeutic Community Coachs (TCC) primary responsibility is to enforce and uphold the structure of the Therapeutic Community model through two core aspects of the program: Workforce and Activity Therapy. The TCC also educates residents and staff on the Therapeutic Community model and oversees the pull ups and push ups system for residents and staff.

Role Type: Full Time - Permanent

Hours of Work:

  • Days (7:30am to 3:30pm), Monday-Friday
  • Additional on-call responsibilities (on a rotational basis), therefore some evening, weekend and/or overnight work may be required to support the staff team

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a College Diploma or University Degree relevant to mental health, addiction, or Social Services
  • Minimum one year of progressive experience in addictions or mental health; experience in concurrent disorders and trauma informed practice an asset
  • Previous experience in residential treatment an asset
  • Previous experience in correctional field an asset
  • Previous experience with justice-involved individuals preferred
  • Food Handlers Certification an asset
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety an asset
  • Lived experience related to addictions and/or mental health an asset

Role Responsibilities:

Oversee Therapeutic Community Structure: Workforce & Activity Therapy

  • Provide motivational support and positive role-modeling to residents while working alongside/participating in Workforce and Activity Therapy with residents
  • Select residents for all work crews/positions based on their phase of treatment, treatment goals, individual strengths and challenges, utilizing the staff team input when required
  • Oversee all work crews; monitor the Supply and Distribution inventory and division of supplies for the Century Home
  • Utilize Workforce to organize, oversee, and facilitate special events (equipment, grounds, food, and supplies) which include (but are not limited to) STCs Annual Meeting, BBQ, Holiday Party, etc.
  • Maintenance and enhancement of the grounds and buildings of the Wellington site through the Employment Coaching & Recreation Program
  • Coach the residents in employment and recreation skills that are aligned with their treatment goals, providing employment support to re-entry clients
  • Co-develop a weekly schedule of planned physical activities for the residents
  • Provide vendor support when Operations Coordinator is not available
  • Support and oversee residents in completing physical plant documentation (e.g., furnace log, water softener log)
  • Coordination and implementation of resident leisure activities
  • Manage monthly program budget

Residential Support

  • Provide mental health and crisis support
  • Participate in supervision
  • Provide peer mentorship and coaching to the team
  • Conduct/inform staff briefing in between shifts
  • Transport clients to appointments and other needs
  • Provide light house keeping
  • Participate in program meetings

Clinical

  • Works with the Centre Coordinators (resident roles) at both sites to ensure the push up and pull up system is being utilized and upheld
  • Share resident behavioural tends observed through the push up and pull up system with the Addiction Counsellors and Transition Coordinator
  • Provide mental health and crisis response to resident situations
  • Make referrals to internal and/or external programs or services, as appropriate
  • On a rotational basis, provide on call services during evenings and weekends
  • Facilitate medication administration for residents
  • Conduct and support unplanned resident discharges
  • Identify and mitigate client risks

Administration

  • Attend all mandatory training programs and weekly team meetings
  • Complete required documentation
  • Provide crisis response to physical plant emergencies in absence of the Operations Coordinator in alignment with Agency emergency planning protocols; Engage On-Call and SLT as needed
  • Required duties and documentation of the Joint Health & Safety Committee to ensure agency compliance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned

Other Requirements:

  • Valid G Drivers License (G2 or greater), with a minimum of 3 years driving experience
  • Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record
  • Reliable vehicle/own transportation not on a bus route
  • Mandatory on call duty, on a rotational basis
  • CSC Clearance conducted by PWGS Canada
  • Standard First Aid/CPR Level C
  • Must be able to attend work (travel to Residential Center's) within an hour of notification, when on call
