Our client is a retail energy provider specializing in electricity and natural gas commodities working with residential and commercial customers operating out of Canada and the United States. They are seeking a Senior Analyst on their Gross Margin Accounting and Reporting team to join them on a 6 month contract term. The role is hybrid in office 3 days a week located in Mississauga.

They are seeking a Senior Analyst on their Gross Margin Accounting and Reporting team to join them on a 6 month contract term. The role is hybrid in office 3 days a week located in Mississauga.

This role in the Gross Margin Accounting and Reporting team focuses on ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and validity of revenue and cost data, including settlements accounting and reconciliations. You will work closely with Risk, Commercial, and Finance teams to analyze monthly and periodic financial results, perform balance sheet reconciliations, and support a timely closing cycle. Additionally, you will oversee revenue reporting, gross margin performance explanations, and variance analysis against the budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reconcile commodity trade floor accounts monthly, ensuring compliance with US GAAP.
  • Match source records to Finance forecasts and explain settlement discrepancies.
  • Analyze data to forecast unbilled receivables and ensure accurate accruals.
  • Improve revenue and trade reporting processes for compliance.
  • Track market changes affecting settlements and contracts.
  • Provide analytical insights for accounting and FP&A reports.
  • Support audits and cross-team information requests.
  • Address business inquiries and propose solutions.
  • Assist cross-functionally within the Finance team as needed.

Must Have:

  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience, of which 3+ years include practice as a CPA/CA or other professional designation.
  • Bachelors of Accounting or Finance and a Master's of Accounting or Finance is preferred.
  • Energy/Utilities experience with Big 4 Audit experience.
  • Advance Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLookups, IF Formulas and VBA Macros.
  • A demonstrated ability to utilize SQL, including writing queries.
  • A demonstrated understanding of commodity markets including gas or power, with associated accounting, control, and finance concepts.
  • An ability to research accounts, perform and review reconciliations with limited coaching.
  • Strong decision making based on quantitative measurements and providing analytical and reasoning capabilities on accounting information.
  • A self-starter with strong attention to detail and focus on meeting reasonable deadlines, with an ability to multi-task, prioritize issues and propose solutions to the Finance Leadership Team.
  • The ability to perform work as both an individual contributor and as a leader of a team to ensure all deadlines are met.
