Position Description:
Reporting to the Food Services Coordinator, the Food Services Worker is primarily responsible for assisting in the production, service and delivery of healthy, delicious and attractive meals to clients at different sites of St. Michaels Homes to aid in their recovery from the impact of addictions.
The Food Services Worker assists with all Food Services activities, including menu planning, inventory, ordering, receiving, cleaning, cooking, serving and delivering meals.
The Food Services Worker complies with applicable food safety policies and best practices.
Responsibilities include:
- Assists the Food Services Coordinator in the execution of his/her duties
- Assists in menu planning
- Assists with weekly inventory and ordering of foodstuffs and dry goods at all sites
- Cooking, portioning, wrapping, labelling, transporting meals and dry goods to other sites
- Thorough daily cleaning
- Models best practices in Food Services and articulates these to Food Services Staff and trainees, and other staff and clients
- Occasional supervision of volunteers
- Other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Minimum G2 drivers license with clean drivers abstract to drive company van
- Two years experience in restaurant, catering or institutional cooking
- Possess basic computer skills, specifically in Microsoft 365 environment.
- Awareness and appreciation of client needs specific to the addictions and mental health field
- Completion of standard staff training modules
- Food Handler Certification
- Experience batch cooking for large groups
- Can cook without a recipe to incorporate donated ingredients
- Ability to make substitutions for standard allergies and cultural/religious avoidances
Working Conditions
- Ability to attend regularly scheduled meetings and engage in impromptu supervisory conversations
- Ability to stand or walk for long periods of the day
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. / 23 kg.
- Comfortable working in a transitional housing setting and interacting with clientele
