What you'll do:
Reporting to the Merchandising & Décor Manager and Director of Communications & Events, the Décor Assistant is a key member of the Sales & Marketing team, responsible for the visual execution of décor, theming, merchandising, and event setups across all Capilano Group properties. This role ensures every visual element reflects Capilano's brand standards while supporting the creative design and setup of signature events such as Canyon Frights, Canyon Lights, and Love Lights. Through immersive, seasonal displays and thoughtful theming, the Décor Assistant helps create memorable, visually stunning guest experiences that bring the Capilano brand to life.
Key Responsibilities:
Event Décor:
- Décor lead for seasonal events at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park including Canyon Frights, Canyon Lights, Love Lights and Spring/Hoppy Heights,
- Oversee daily schedules for the décor team, delegating tasks as needed,
- Source, purchase, and manage décor materials, ensuring safety, authenticity, and thematic appropriateness,
- Design, build and install innovative visual displays and immersive sets, ensuring they align with brand standards,
- Maintain and catalog décor inventory to ensure safe storage for future use,
- Assists the Director of Communications & Events with internal/external marketing event planning and execution, when required.
Design & Merchandising:
- Create visual vignettes and props that align with the brand's story and seasonal themes,
- Source and procure items for property needs (e.g., pens, matchbooks, stationery),
- Support sourcing efforts for furniture, fixtures, and décor accessories across properties,
- Assist Merchandising & Décor Manager in setting up and maintaining merchandising standards for all retail spaces,
- Aid in painting and maintaining signage at all Capilano Group properties.
- Conduct daily walk-throughs at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park and Trading Post to ensure brand and merchandising standards are met, including checking for repair needs, ensuring signage compliance and park cleanliness, and confirming that Team Members adhere to appearance guidelines,
- Provide assistance with seasonal opens and closes of Moraine Lake Trading and Prospect Point, when required,
- Serve as a strong visual partner with positive, solution-based approach to department needs,
- Editing, formatting documents as needed, for all properties,
- Proactively collaborate cross-functionally with departments to align on event and merchandising goals.
- 2-3 years of experience in set decoration, event management, or brand storytelling (experience in themed events or hospitality preferred),
- Valid Class 5 driver's license required due to the need for travel between properties and transportation of décor materials and equipment,
- Access to a reliable vehicle is an asset,
- Theatre or event management degree or diploma an asset,
- Strong communications skills, both written and verbal,
- A keen eye for detail and visual aesthetics,
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines,
- Experience leading a team and working collaboratively across departments.
Considerations:
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays, in a variety of weather conditions.
- While performing the duties of this position, Team Members are required to be on their feet for extended periods of time, occasionally lifting up to 40 lbs., and climbing ladders,
- This is a full-time contract position based on-site at our North Vancouver location.
