- Sound knowledge of legislation that concerns children and families, particularly the CYFSA.
- Sound knowledge of the processes and procedures involved in litigation, including current legal decisions and relevant techniques.
- Sound knowledge of legal research is necessary.
- Ability to mediate with other parties regarding what is in the best interests of the child and the Agency.
- Skilled in assessing the evidentiary merits of a child protection case as described by Agency staff and other witnesses.
- Proven organizational and administrative skills.
- Leadership skills.
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and the ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Some travel within the region and the ability to work flexible hours may be required.
- LL.B. from recognized School of Law.
- Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years' experience practicing in family law, child representation, child protection, young offenders, or relevant/similar experience.
- Management experience is an asset.
- Must possess a valid Ontario Driver's Licence or the equivalent.
- Must produce a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
- Must be a member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada and licensed to practice law in Ontario (or eligible for licensure).
